The first single from their forthcoming album due out sometime early next year. According to lead singer Kele Okereke, "It's really, to me, very much an album about living in the city and I think a lot of the themes resonating on the record are pretty much about everyday living in the metropolis. So I guess the title's really gonna represent that for me." Apparently he will also be drawing more influence from Radiohead, and they will move away from their '80s influences heard on Silent Alarm. An incomplete tracklist is up on blocparty.net. Below is an article on the new album: www.thespacelab.tv/spaceLAB/2006/08August/MusicNews-01-BlocParty.htm

Tell me that the single is not really called TBA and it's just that you're excited about the prospect of a Bloc Party album.

Out of all the hyped up indie UK bands out there, Bloc Party is probably the only one I can stand. I don't think this album is going to give them their big break in the U.S. since its supposed to be more experimental.

No "Two More Years" on the tracklist? Hopefully that will at least be a hidden bonus track.

I'll promise to be much more Bloc Party friendly this time around. I listened to it many times in the gym where I work out, but never really warmed up to it, so that may explain part of my giddy anticipation for their new album right there. Oh, yeah, and the album is called A Weekend In The City. The artwork: upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/d/de/Aweekendinthecitycover.png/602px- :)

I sure hope this is not the first sign of a sophomre slump. I'm not a huge fan of Radiohead, but I'll definately be waiting for this new album. Bloc Part is a great live band. Anybody else had the chance to see them in concert?

No, and I'll skip seeing them live this Fall since I'll have to suffer through the teenybopper fans of Panic! At the Disco. Not to mention that they're performing at huge arenas.
I love that album artwork, BTW.

Don't know if that will be the first U.S. single or not.

I'll just respond to a post by penance in another thread since it's Bloc Party-related.
I actually strongly disliked Bloc Party at first, and dismissed them as another critics' darling of that retro-indie realm. Their first CD was an acquired taste for me, and while they certainly aren't doing anything new as the critics would have you believe, it's a decent catchy/poppy sound maybe like the Strokes or Hot Hot Heat.
I've actually searched this, and there's really nothing new to report. I really hope they develop their sound and bridge toward slower melodies a la Radiohead.

I love that album artwork, BTW. Oh yeah. They are touring together aren't they? I've only heard a couple of songs by Panic and I don't really like them much. I would sit through their concert though, if it meant catching Bloc Partly live again. Sadly, they're not stopping in my city. Which artwork are you talking about?

"The Prayer" is great. It's totally different for them; they've taken an almost post-rock, atmospheric direction on this track.
My personal new favorite is "Hunting for Witches".

Oh, man! I'm counting down the days till Feb 6th. Any news if they're going to tour the US in support of this new album?

They were supposed to with Panic! At the Disco but had to bail. I would think they're going on a US tour by Spring or so.

Bloc Party opening for Panic would have been a tragedy, anyway.

Bloc Party opening for Panic would have been a tragedy, anyway. Why is that? Too many teenyboppers in the audience? It certainly would've gained them mainstream exposure here in the States, which would help because they wouldn't have to change their sound at all. Of course, I have no idea how big Panic! are in the U.K.

Because they'd be treated like s**t by the crowd, that's why.
Funny how intolerant fans of supposedly expressive music can be.
I feel for whoever opened for Underoath, too. (I forget who it was, but I heard it was a f**king disaster).
And besides, Bloc Party would move forward with their sound, popularity on their side or not. They don't court mass approval.

It looks like the US is gonna get "I Still Remember" while the UK receives "The Prayer." I haven't heard the former, it better be good.

Really? The Prayer has spins already, though.
ISR is good, too, but I prefer the former.
Hmm, I wonder if they're afraid The Prayer is too otherworldy and intangible for rock radio. It's not like they will garner much airplay no matter what they release, so I say go for the stronger track.

Funny how intolerant fans of supposedly expressive music can be. . Yeah they are! I was at the Franz Ferdinand/Death Cab concert last summer and FF, to my shock, was the opening act. Needless to say, those Death Cab fans were brutal while FF played their set. I was so pissed b/c I paid good money to go to that show and see FF. The pit was full of high school kids too cool for school who would not shut up. If I don't like the opening act I either: A) Get to the concert late. B) Go to the concession stand and fill up on beer. C) Stay there, shut up, and wait until my band comes out. Needless to say, I stayed for one Death Cab song and then left. >:(

Wow. Well at my show, Franz headlined and DCFC got the cold shoulder. The energy during the FF set was so phenomenal. I have never been so energized by a band's performance in my life, and I've been to A LOT of shows. As an added bonus, my friends and I got to grope Alex Kapranos when he leaned out into the crowd. HAHAHA I remember I was so out of control after the show that someone threw a bucket of water on my head to bring me to my senses, LMAO. GOOD TIMES!

Well at my show, Franz headlined and DCFC got the cold shoulder. Shut up! :o I guess the alternated who would open and who would headline throughout the entire tour??? Sounds like Dallas got the shaft. And yeah, I was somewhat weary that FF would deliver live but after the first song any fears I had disappeared. They were awesome! Oh, and you sound just like me when I'm at a concert. Except the whole part about groping the band members...

The official opening band for that tour was The Cribs. Franz and DCFC alternated (it was a "co-headlining tour). I was so happy Franz headlined at my show; what a letdown it would have been (for me, and just in terms of the musical energy) to have DCFC play after Franz! That's the musical equivalent of riding a rocket into space and then returning back to earth via air balloon (or something). Anyway, it would have been anti-climactic as hell. I can't believe the two bands toured together in the first place. Talk about musical incompatibility!

Speaking of disastrous tour pairings, The Mars Volta opening for System Of A Down wins the lead medal for me.
A rundown of the fan distribution of the crowd: 90% meat-faced metalheads that were only there to crowd surf and bang into one another all night 9% hardcore TMV fans who take the lyrics "my cock is much bigger than yours" at face value as a convenient outlet to call SOAD lyrics childish and immature to take some of the sting out of dropping the $50 to exercise their only chance to see the band in the states 1% my demographic, consisting of everyone else who understands and appreciates both bands.

I have to agree, crash! The MV/RHCP pairing also was near disastrous.
The NINies weren't much kinder to Bauhaus, Peaches, or TVOTR.
The only redemption was the undeniable fact that Peter Murphy blew Trent out of the water night after night without fail. A lot of fan conversion took place this summer.
