First single from their new album Zombies! Aliens! Vampires! Dinosaurs!, which was released on August 8 and contains mostly re-recorded material from previously unreleased songs. The album is the follow-up to their 2004 self-titled EP, which of course produced their hit single "Shimmy Shimmy Quarter Turn". The song is really quite poppy and likely won't move past #60 here. Fred Savage directs this video. For those who do not know this band, they performed on the '06 Warped Tour. Think of a more indie-leaning All-American Rejects. Really more power-pop than emo-punk, IMO. wm.allaccess.com/allaccess/hellhere.wma

SSQT was a hit? ??? I wasn't aware of that, it was a great song though.
I'm gonna have a hard time getting into the vo-coders and techno feel of this new single.

This is pure pop... I don't see any Alt. stations getting into it. Not a bad song though.

^ It is. It's almost so pop, it borders dance. Cool song indeed. :)

While I do like the song since I'm kind of a sucker for some dance songs, I don't think it really belongs on rock stations, and should only clearly stick to Pop.

Well, it wasn't a "hit", per se, but it was released as a single and gained significant Fuse airplay. Tight song. In this one, they almost sound like a completely different band. I'll have to check this album out.

It reminds me of Cher. Alternative Press magazine recommended Cher's Believe if you liked their new album. javascript:add("%20;D") Grin

If I think about it long enough I know which all three of these acts are, but I have trouble distinguishing between Hellogoodbye and The Academy Is..., and then on a name basis, I have trouble keeping straight The Academy Is... and Say Anything. Fred Savage directs this video. Fred is fresh on my mind because I recently saw the Seinfeld episode where Kramer's in California and makes a nervous fool of himself in a restaurant trying to pitch his "The Keys" movie treatment to Fred Savage. More recently, I got suckered into watching a Lifetime movie from the 90's where Fred was Candace Cameron's abusive (and ultimately murderous :( ) boyfriend. It reminds me of Cher. Alternative Press magazine recommended Cher's Believe if you liked their new album. javascript:add("%20;D") Grin I don't think it's so much "recommended" as it was "sounds like." So, from the word here, that's not so far-fetched and ridiculous as it looked to me, when I saw that. I just thought they were being jackasses, like when Bon Jovi's Slippery When Wet was one of the three albums cited that the new Eighteen Visions record sounded like. (The other two were Velvet Revolver and HIM's Dark Light.)

I saw this on Fuse last week and wow, these guys are really playing up that whole retro-total-nerd image. And I couldn't believe all that vocoder in it. It didn't even sound like a "rock" song; just a dancy pop-(rock) tune. I don't remember liking the song (or the video).

The Cher comparison popped into my head even before I read about it here. Nevertheless, I really like this.

Yeah, this album is straight-up pop, whereas I think their last album really had that "punk" edge that helped them gain Warped Tour status this year. "Shimmy" is actually tolerable and fun, but this is really the most poppy power-pop I've ever heard this side of Bowling For Soup.
