Well, after all the grief it's gotten from radio fanatics and purists everywhere, 102.7 KIIS FM in Los Angeles gets to spit in everyone's faces. For the first time since the '80's, KIIS is #1 in the overall LA Arbitron ratings, as well as the 12-54 female demos. Apparently, Seacrest had a great book, and numerous personalities (JoJo, ODM and Valentine) were all at the top. It's worth noting that this coincides with the turn towards rhythmic music, as well as reggaeton/dancehall type music (Daddy Yankee, NB Ridaz, Shakira, among others.) Obviously, the folks over there knew what they were doing.
I'm interested to see what Marv has to say about this. No, KIIS isn't running away with 10-shares, and they may not be your definition of a "mass appeal CHR", yet they are the most listened to radio station in Los Angeles. Their formula is working, and KIIS cannot be ragged on anymore as "trying to hard to follow Power 106." Now, it's Power following them.
Congrats to the staff over there. That's really huge for them, and for CHR radio in general.
