A new Rolling Stone interview with Modest Mouse frontman Isaac Brock reveals that the new album will be titled "We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank", which will be released December 19th. A lead single announcement is expected within the next several weeks.
Other exciting news is that Johnny Marr, best known as the lead musician behind British rock band The Smiths, has become a new permanent member of the band, and the band has described their new album as a "nautical balalaika carnival romp."
Dennis Herring is once again their producer.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Holy crap @ Johnny Marr being a permanent member of Modest Mouse.
Not that they didn't already have my attention, but they damn sure have it now.

It might sound strange , but I'd like to see their next album doing not quite as well as GNFPWLBN , they had a lot of success and impressive sales with that one but I just can't stand the prospect of them being regarded as just another radio band like Green Day , Audioslave or The Killers (which is not to say that I don't like these bands).

I absolutely loved their last album. Besides "Float On", my favorite tracks are probably either "World at Large" or "Blame It On The Tetons". Really great psychedelic/indie/whatever-you-want-to-call it album. Can anyone think of any bands that sound similar? Postal Service or Band of Horses would be my two, but they're probably not even that similar.
Really anticipating their new album, and the addition of Johnny Marr could do nothing but help them. The first single will likely go far, but with their lack of a radio-friendly sound, I doubt the second single will do much. Oh, yeah...
Well, I honestly doubt that will happen, but if they display as much integrity and passion in the music as their last album, then why not? I'm currently frustrated with the hoopla surrounding 30 Seconds To Mars, when their new album is, to me, a watered down version of their first album. And it does frustrate me to see bandwagon-hoppers instantly like this band because they did 60,000 tours this last summer. But, like I said, I'm perfectly comfortable with other bands I enjoyed become radio staples, such as Sugarcult & Thrice, so I dunno.

I don't believe the band has any determined interest in becoming a mainstream staple beyond the Alternative and Triple A formats, I sense. And even if they do decide to head in that route, I'm confident they can have their hooks without sacrificing their authenticity, and can deliver a mainstream masterpiece like R.E.M did with "Automatic For The People". Even their last album, a breakthrough it may be, was mostly non-commerical sounding. "Bukowski", "This Devil's Workday" and "Blame It On The Tetons" especially lived up to the material from the era of "The Lonesome Crowded West" and such. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I've got a feeling this album is going to be incredible..these guys are getting better with every album, and The Moon & Antarctica is still one of my favorite CDs of all time.

The Postal Service's music sounds line Nintendo and fart noises. Now, I'm not really sure how to describe Modest Mouse music but I know it doesn't sound like that.

I don't think The Postal Service is a worthy comparison because I think The Postal Service sounds much closer to emo than it does indie rock. The Postal Service to me are like a light-techno kind of emo. I really don't think you can exactly compare Modest Mouse to any single artist. Where some mainstream artists just have a "surface sound", interpreting Modest Mouse's sound is more like carving an onion, where their sound seems to evolve and have greater depth and mystique.
