I just heard this for the first time a few hours ago and I liked it instantly. When the DJ announced it was Modest Mouse after the song played I was surprised because it didn't sound like them, but it's great.

There's something very Fire Engines meets Madness about this. I like it.

This is EXPLODING out of the gate...well over +500.
I totally didn't expect that...but now that I've started to listen to it, I've caught onto it.
This sounds like something worthy of club remixes.

This song is fucking incredible. I knew it was a hit the moment I heard it.

This will be the song Modest Mouse becomes known for, way more than "Float On".
If I had to pick a favourite new song right now, this would be it; it's mad good.

I agree with you guys...this is just beyond any expectations of awesomeness. And let's face it - that bar was set pretty high. And they f**king leapt right over it. The only people who might not love this are those afraid to see their little band hit the big time. Please. They are hardly selling out - if anything they've become more multi-dimensional and expressionist than ever.

This is by far the weakest song I've heard from them to date. The album might turn out to be the biggest disappointment of the year.

Wow, this totally blew away my expectations. I was expecting the worst, but this could very well be my favorite new song right now. I guess that's what happens when you recruit one of the best guitar players of the 1980's to join your band.
The thing that makes it work (and every other Modest Mouse song I like) is that Isaac doesn't try to carry the song with his voice. I think he tried doing that with "Float On" and it just didn't work at all. As a result, I was never completely convinced I could like this band, even though subsequent singles and prior ones I was exposed to were much better. But I think this song makes me want to dip into their back-catalogue to see what else they've done.

I heard it on the radio for the first time this morning and I really took to it. Time will tell if it does any damage on my personal chart, but at least it's not the same post-grunge and emo-punk dead horses.

Very good. The rhythms are a little more dance-y than I expected out of a MM single. It kind of reminds me of "The View," but the difference is that I actually like the chorus of this one.
And no, MM did not really sell out. Critics were saying the same thing when Hot Hot Heat released Elevator, which was half as trendy but actually considerably better than its predecessor. Meh.

They should send this to Pop. We need to get that format back on track. This is ON FIYAH.

^^ Yeah , maybe next time kids will show up in their 50 Cent shirts at their next concert cuz they're one of the hottest pop bands around.
If they really need to sell out , then be it. But they'll lose many fans who loved them for their older releases.

I think it could do as well as "Take Me Out" on my Pop. Where did "Float On" peak there?

It's #10 now & the bullet is dropping. I hope this doesn't stall early. WTF?

IIRC, Float On may have barely got into the top 40...like 37 or 38, but no higher.

Does anyone know when the video for this is premiering? Is it on iTunes yet?

Of course, "Take Me Out" was one of many publicized recipients of payola on pop radio, when Eliot Spitzer started cracking down. Really? Well, I'm not uniformly opposed to payola, & in their case, I guess it worked, because it was one of most widely loved songs of 2004. I think this song is catchy enough to be released to Pop. It could probably dent the Top 40. More importantly, it would increase their audience & promote the record to a broader demographic.

I can't see this doing any better than "Float On" at Pop.

A Top 40 placement on Pop, a Top 3 placement on Alt, and strong downloads could = Top 20 Billboard hit. Go for it!

Well it's gonna debut in the Top 5 or 10 anyway....
Do you mean for longevity, then?
