larryedoff.com/Song_Year.pdfSomebody at another board I post at put this link up apparently showing the list of 666 songs (EXACTLY!) that were up for nomination, of which five will be up for on Thursday and I must say that even though I know that most rock songs on that list have absolutely no chance of getting the nomination, it's cool just to see them up there... The Diary of Jane Original Fire Colony of Birchmen! Eyes of the Insane by SLAYER! and Falls Apart by Hurt are among the many listed. I wish this among other lists would have leaked a long time ago. I don't know how long it's going to be up, but I think it would bring up an interesting discussion.

Yeah, interesting, isn't it? The Kill, Miss Murder, Anna Molly, ...To Be Loved were also some of the many rock songs submitted for Song of the Year. I think Mastodon will make into the Metal cateogory for sure. I also saw a list for the Pop categories and Say Anything's "Alive With the Glory of Love" was submitted for best pop group performance. Here it is: larryedoff.com/Popgrammylistfor2006.pdf

It's the most organic step of the process; it's nice to see the unknowns next to the stars at this point. We all know who's going to make it to the final 5/6, but just for this moment in time, it's like a musical utopia. Lovely.

Hurt deserves a new band nomination or something. Most underrated new band of the year in my opinion, and I can't wait for Vol. 2 to come out next year.

Well, this proves what we've known all along: with 666 nominations, the Grammies are the spawn of the Devil. Seriously though, Butch Walker finally gets some love for 'Bethamphetamine (Pretty Pretty)'. Can there be anyone more underrated in the music biz?

Original fire, please, please, please. I just want to see the beauteous Chris Cornell up on that stage accepting his award.

I'm pulling for NIN/Wolfmother, Mastodon, and Gnarls Barkley.

Although NIN are my favorite band from the acts up for Best Hard Rock Performance, I wonder why "Everyday is Exactly the Same" is up for it. Although I love the song, their isn't much hard rockin' going on in it.

I agree, it's not very rock at all. It's quite a downtempo, moody track. It's almost like a chamber industrial hybrid. I guess that's the category it was submitted in, though. It's not like the Grammys give much leighway for style interpretation. It's all semantics.

I do believe that song should've been nominated. It's brilliant, imo.

Crazy B**** for Hard Rock? What were those crazy b****es thinking? And make that eyeroll a double for me for System of a Down. Not that I hate System, but sheesh, they picked the worst single they've ever released and they got nominated. Diary of Jane for Hard Rock Performance? I think there were at least 10 songs I could have picked that would have been better than Buckcherry or System. Otherwise, the category is good. Pearl Jam got snubbed. Metal is going to be an amazing category this year. Alternative is ALWAYS a good category. Finally, I'm happy that Red got nominated for Christian Rock/Rap Gospel Album.

Yeah, I also would've liked some Grammy love for Pearl Jam and Muse, probably my two favorites from the past year.
