This will be the first single from their fifth album and follow-up to 2002's Diorama called Young Modern, which comes out in early spring.
I'm excited.

This could be very interesting. I haven't heard much from them in the past eight years or so besides the single "The Greatest View," which bombed here in the States if my memory serves me right. I think they were one of the most underrated and rocking bands in the 90s, so I'm hoping they could make a huge comeback.

Diorama was ridiculously underrated over here.
I'm interested in just how much further they'll take that sound.

I forgot about them.
Remember when they got big on TRL?
Everyone was singing "Ana's Song" without realizing what it was about, haha. Late 90's naivete rocked.

I never knew their entire story behind how they got big until I actually bothered to do some research on them...which was in like, 2003. I had no idea they were still so young when "Open Fire" was on TRL in the summer of '99.
How old were they when they formed in Australia? Like 13? Talk about an amazing overnight success story.
I really am oblivious to their work other than a few songs. "Tomorrow" was a great idea but had its kinks.

The singles from the first two albums, lyrically, were just atrocious. "Anthem for the Year 2000" continued down that same path, but the two subsequent singles were lyrically fine. Obviously, America ignored Diorama and for all the good words it received, I'm really curious to hear it, to see if it was worth all the hype. I'd love for them to prove it to me that their songwriting grew by leaps and bounds.

"Were lyrically fine". I'm glad you approve.

I don't think many people realize or remember that they released three albums before making a Best Of Volume 1 in 2000 and prior to Diorama. Now in days, all I ever hear from them on the radio as a recurrent is Tomorrow, when they released other singles like Pure Massacre, Abuse Me, Freak, Anthem For The Year 2000, and as mentioned already Ana's Song (Open Fire).

I think it's more likely that people don't remember any albums after Frogstomp.

It's unfortunate that Silverchair don't have a better history here. Lol @ people singing to Ana's Song while not knowing what they were singing too.
Diorama is definitely worth the hype. Daniel Johns got happy, healthy and decided that he was Brian Wilson.

"Were lyrically fine". I'm glad you approve. If this is your idea of poetry, then by all means keep antagonizing me every chance you get.

On February 2nd, the single will premiere on Australian radio and the band's website. The album comes out March 31st in Australia. No word on U.S. release.

WOW..... I burned a cd this week and "Tomorrow" was on it! I didn't realize that people still listened! Good shit! I am psyched about this new single!

Sorry, I have to agree with SunnyScorpio about Silverchair's earlier singles being awful. Of course, in all fairness, they were teenagers, and I do have to admit "Ana's Song" was a pretty big step up. I haven't heard anything from Diorama.

I like how you're agreeing with someone who's not in this thread.

Whoops...mea culpa. I meant Nicholas 2.0. Don't know how or why I got the two mixed up.

I know that was only like 10 seconds of music, but that was totally not what I expected to hear from a Silverchair song. That chorus almost sounded might I say like something you'd hear on American Idol. Well, I hope the rest of the song rocks.

That chorus almost sounded might I say like something you'd hear on American Idol. I'm not sure how you gathered that. It doesn't sound like anything that wouldn't be out of place on any alternative rock band's album, which is still what they are, right? Alternate answer: Well shit, then I guess I've been wrong to avoid Idol for all these years, haven't I?

Alternate answer: Well s**t, then I guess I've been wrong to avoid Idol for all these years, haven't I? Well I mean, nothing I've ever heard from Silverchair sounds anything like this. I don't know how much of their material you've heard, but most of it was pretty hard rockin' back in the day. You've made the right decision to avoid AI, because besides Daughtry, I haven't heard of anything else rock oriented.

For one thing, it's a chorus. Second off, it's not a pop chorus, it's just a lighter rock chorus, like Nickelback or something. Third off, I think a hard rock band is allowed to have lighter songs. It's not even that light really. It's not like Coldplay or whatever. It's just a chorus. Also, I think Silverchair is intent on continuing the direction they took on their last albums and not going back to the Frogstomp days.

The single and video is now up on the website. Current reaction seems to be divided into those who heard Diorama and think this is a great song and natural progression for the band and those who hadn't heard Diorama and are bitterly disappointed and confused that they aren't still making songs like "Tomorrow".
I think this is a pretty okay single, but man, the singer looks like he stepped out of a gay rodeo. I'm sorry, flashing lights works for Coldplay and Coldplay alone.

I see what penance sees in terms of his appearance in the video- bear chested and a moustache...makes him look like she should be wearing bondage gear. In regards to the song, it is only slightly better than 'meh' in my opinion.
