From All Access Net News: AC WTPI Now Adult Hits "The Track" Adults 30+ ... absolutely love this music ENTERCOM AC WTPI/INDIANAPOLIS has flipped to an Adult Hits, JACK-like format as "THE TRACK" (a nod to the world-famous INDY MOTORSPEEDWAY). THE TRACK’s station image voice, JEFF DAVIS, introduced the new brand at 8:30a, followed by its debut set of music: ALICIA BRIDGES “I Love The Nightlife,” STEELY DAN “Reeling In The Years,” BILLY JOEL “Tell Her About It,” GRASS ROOTS “Midnight Confessions,” LIONEL RICHIE “You Are,” VAN MORRISON “Domino,” and ROD STEWART “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy.” The format was developed by ENTERCOM SVP/Programming PAT PAXTON, ENTERCOM/INDIANAPOLIS WZPL-WTPI OM SCOTT SANDS, and ACC Marketing & Consulting chief TOM WATSON. WATSON will oversee the station on a daily basis in-house, along with SANDS, until further notice. WATSON describes the station as “Playing music from the 70’s and 80’s that radio mostly stopped playing a few years ago.” He continues, “We’ve found, through extensive research, complete passion with Adults 30+ who absolutely love this music.” The site, www.1079thetrack.com, offers a webcast and promises that the station will play "The Most Music In The Morning" and "18-Tracks-In-A Row All Day At Work." The flip is an interesting move by ENTERCOM, considering the market has plenty of similarly formatted stations, with SUSQUEHANNA doing the authentic JACK format on WJJK, and EMMIS running a Country version called HANK-FM on WLHK. From me: WTPI is currently 12th in the Indianapolis ratings with about 2/3rds the rating Emmis AC station WYXB has.

This doesn't make much sense to me.
Also, HANK-FM has taken a pretty big jump in the last three books, according the ratings link on R&Rs homepage, and has had a moderate impact ratings wise on WFMS, arguably the nation's most successful Country station among the nation's 15 largest cities.

Indianapolis isn't close to one of the 15 largest radio markets. I think the highest 12+ rating for a Country station in a Top 15 radio market is KMPS Seattle-Tacoma.

I was speaking about population, and not the R&R market rankings. Based on population, the top stations in America in selected formats in large cities would go something like this...
CHR/Pop---WNCI--Columbus, Ohio
Country----WFMS--Indianapolis
Oldies------WGAR--Cleveland
News-Talk-KMOX---St. Louis

According to the radio station ratings Oldies WMJI is Number 1 in Cleveland and WGAR is a Country station.

They've been neck-and-neck at #1 for a while, and in their usuall traditional cheapskate manner, CC recently appointed longtime WGAR PD Meg Stevens as PD of WMJI, which is unquestionably the most successful oldies out there in a city the size of Celveland.
