On the sticker of the new album (I got my copy shipped already!), this is listed as one of the singles on it. I know Myspace had "Me, I'm Not" as their "exclusive" a couple weeks ago, but that would be a mistake. This, on the other hand, is probably the catchiest song on Year Zero.

Does anyone else notice that the beat in the opening (and throughout, only less obviously) is reminiscent of Michael Jackson's "The Way You Make Me Feel"? I could be completely making this up, but it's the first thing I noticed.
Having said that, I love this song.

Yeah, this is a good choice. I'm not too concerned about singles for this album though. The marketing campaign (or as Trent likes to call it, THE "art form") of this project is so incredible, I couldn't possibly care too much about what gets chosen. They're on a right track though with this release.
And yeah, I notice similarity between the intro to this and MJ's TWYMMF.

The beginning of this actually reminds me of Depeche Mode.

I'm surprised at how fast "Survivalism" died even after going to #1. I guess the stations lost interest after the new Linkin Park song.

"Survivalism" isn't really a radio song. Hype is the only thing that elevated it to the position it achieved. That new LP song will suffer a similar fate. Mark my words.

The #1 spot has really whored itself out all year long. I listened to the first half or so of the album in my car, and right away, with the percussion from the intro, I was reminded of kingLuke's comment and thought "This has to be that Capital G song".

Hits Daily Double is estimating that Year Zero will sell about 200,000 copies in it's first week on the chart. However, don't assume it will get #1 just yet with Avril Lavigne's new album expected to sell around 250,000 copies.

Especially considering the musical regression that is "Girlfriend" and the fact that the album cover has a heart and crossbones on it.

You people aren't listening right, "Girlfriend" certainly shows Avril maturing and taking on some more personal material. It's just too subtle for your people's minds.

I can see why Avril gets more attention then Nine Inch Nails does. The way she recorded her new album is horrible behind the way Trent poured his mind/soul into Year Zero. Here's a clip from the past FMQB article that makes me not like her style of writing... "The chorus was written in two minutes. It took nothing. And what's really cool about 'I Can Do Better' is we wrote it, and then I just ran into the booth, and I sang. I laid down the verse, and ... we just used my demo [take]. It was totally different — so much fun!"There's a bit more and you all can read-up here... www.fmqb.com/article.asp?id=359295This is a NIN topic so I'll keep it on that, I was just throwing this out since some aren't liking Avril to be above NIN on album sales (but you'll get that sometime or another). I absolutely love all of the tracks on Year Zero and 'Capital G' doesn't disappoint me as a single. By far, NIN beats almost every artist on creativity this year whether it's from the ARG to the concept that is Year Zero. And it's still not over, folks. The second albums "Year Zero: part 2" is being dropped next year.

I don't know if I dislike the idea of writing a song in just a few minutes, since many bands claim their best songs came from moments exactly like that. It's called inspiration, and sometimes it comes easily and sometimes it doesn't. I loved Hugo from Tantric's story about how he came up with "Hey Now" and "After We Go" on the toilet. Sometimes things happen that way, and it doesn't make songs bad because less time was spent on creating them.
However.
I am absolutely hesitant to call anything that Avril has made "inspired" by any definition of the word. There is something to be said for shlock work that's just thrown together and dumped out onto a blank disc. I'd be more inclined to view Avril in the latter sense. It is possible to write a really bad chorus in two minutes without any thought behind it just like it's possible to write a really good chorus in two minutes after having a sudden burst of clarity. I think Avril's thoughts probably sound like air coming out of a balloon.

This is almost effortlessly catchy and has a nice little swagger to it, much like the new album as a whole. Hopefully, it can solidify album sales.

This song is about George Bush, right? The lyrics seem to fit, and "he signs his name with a capital G?" Surely it is...

So his name is greed? If the album's content is really to take place 15 years from now, that would rule out George W. Bush, so I'll probably go with the God comparison. Not that the George one isn't absolute dynamite in and of itself. This song is rocketing up the chart surprisingly fast given the meteoric tumble that "Survivalism" took. I'm still shocked that the first single went from #13 to #27 in one week. I understand it's not radio friendly, but it's Nine Inch Nails! It's Nine Inch Nails!
