Gavin Rossdale is currently working on his first solo album with producer Bob Rock (Metallica, Our Lady Peace, Lostprophets), with the hopes of getting it out sometime this year, but in the meantime there's a new song that will be used as the theme for Fox's new race-based action drama, Drive. I don't know if it will be a single or not, but I would think it highly likely in order to raise awareness that Gavin is still a force in the music world.
I'll say it right now. Institute deserved better. Hell, Bush deserved better, but that's over and done and they had a good run, but if anything Institute should've been as great a comeback as Velvet Revolver or Audioslave. I realize Bush was nowhere as prolific as Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden, or Rage Against The Machine, but they were a damn good band with a large number of hits and Institute did nothing but really continue in the proper direction for Bush. You could hear some Helmet influence there from Traynor's presence and Hamilton's production, but overall it was no different than a fifth Bush album would've been.
What I'm saying is that if this solo album tanks, then probably Gavin will have to try to get Bush back together, and if that reunion tanks, then I'm just giving up on radio completely. "Bullet-Proof Skin" should not have tanked, and "Come On Over" and "Wasteland" should've been the hit follow-up singles, and I'm just kind of bitter that Gavin didn't get any real exposure out of the whole mess while his wife manages to sell out her band and be all the more successful for it. Gavin stuck to his guns and gets jack.
