I love when people say "smash (insert artist) cover" as a joke...well this time...it is!
On May 14, 12 bands will release covers of Pumpkins songs on their MySpace accounts. In July, the CD will be released exclusively in SPIN magazine on Newsstands.
This is the "lead" single even though they will all probably get minor airplay on rock stations.
Other bands include Panic! At The Disco, Test Your Reflex, etc.

Please let this be fake. Everything about this covers album sounds like a disaster.

This is all true. AbsolutePunk mentioned something all about this yesterday.

Other than Deftones and maybe Young Love, I'm not feeling this at all.

I'm pretty sure I'll be sorry I heard the Panic! cover, but I'd just like to know what it sounds like, as I can't think of a better Pumpkins song for them to cover and for this tribute album to open with.
I'd like to hear the (+44) and Deftones covers, though, admittedly, I'm not all that familiar with the originals, despite owning Gish for almost 7 years now. Of course, I'll have to hear the 30STM track. I just hope it's an album cut. I'm curious to see what the Bravery do with "Rocket," though I can't imagine how that could work.
I don't have a problem with Hawthorne Heights, but I have no interest in hearing their cover of "Bullet." They're not the type of band that could cover that and not have the end result be totally lame. I can't see any band covering that song and pulling it off, unless they completely overhaul the arrangement and make it sound very little like the original.

I'm not even a big Smashing Pumpkins fan, but I can tell right away this is gonna suck.

Some of these have potential. But Hawthorne Heights? Panic! at the Disco? The Bravery doing "Rocket"? Those are disasters waiting to happen.

I'm probably the biggest Hawthorne Heights fan on the board, and I can only shudder to think what this may sound like. For whatever reason, when J.T. lowers his voice a couple octaves, they do seem much more Pumpkins-esque, and actually seem *more* believable. If you actually listen to The Silence in Black & White, they aren't the generico punk band you make them out to be.
If I knew it would sound nothing like the original, I would probably be more excited.

This is a travesty. I'm only really interested in the Deftones and 30STM. And maybe Ben Kweller.
Although, I wish the Deftones would've done one of the Siamese album cuts or something. Their shoegaze-inspired stuff has always been my favorite type of songs from them.
