It's like being caught in a time warp. And then you realize there's no warp at all. I'll admit that distorted phaser packed intro (seemingly identical to what you hear in "Zero") never gets old. I dig. Liked it more than I thought I would. Agree with both. Alt:-- 30 SMASHING PUMPKINS Tarantula 2007 Reprise 464 0 464 3.298

I hope it can debut high on the Hot 100 so Billy C relaxes a little.

After throwing in the towel in 2000, tired of fighting "the good fight" against the Britneys of the world, why the f**k would he be willing to come back now, when he's gotta compete against American Idol? (Sans James? And sans D'Arcy or even Melissa?) Billy Corgan is an ass.

Are you serious? This is already top 10? And Chicago is playing it twice as much as their other songs?

Doing better than expected. I was gone for a few days on vacation, so I was shocked to see this Top 5! What # is it on iTunes?

will be easily n.1
is already #5 on alternative with 1608 plays (+711) the n.1 is linkin park with 2100 but lost -254
if LP lost other 250 next week will be around 1900, SP could do an other +300 next week...Sp could do n.1 also in next week..but will be difficult..i think it could catch it in 2-3 weeks.

^Digital Sales. That's going to make for a pretty sorry Hot 100 debut - hopefully it can manage Top 90. It's airplay should help.

Billboard: The Smashing Pumpkins extend their record string of consecutive top 10 hits at Alternative to 17 as "Tarantula" blasts 30-5. After falling shy of the top 10 with its first two charting tracks, the Billy Corgan-led group's streak started in July 1993 when "Cherub Rock" peaked at No. 7. The Pumpkins' prior top 10 was "Stand Inside Your Love," seven years and two months ago ... Blink-182 holds the second-longest consecutive top 10 string at 10 (from July 1999 to July 2004), and Linkin Park has the next-longest active streak of six straight top 10s ... "Tarantula" earns Most Increased Plays and Airpower stripes at Alternative and Active Rock, debuting at No. 14 on the latter list.

That's an awesome record. This may have been asked already, but when does the album drop?

July 10th.... it was originally gonna be 07/07/07 but it got changed, presumably to fit the conventional New Tuesdays way of doing it.

I was put off at first by Billy's vocals and the unusually raw production, but I've gotten into it now. It's still far from one of my favorite SP songs though.

Billboard review:
Tarantula the SMASHING PUMPKINS Producer(s): Billy Corgan, Jimmy Chamberlin Label: Reprise
Having disbanded for several years, the Smashing Pumpkins know their return single needs to make a grand entrance. The band's new incarnation comes out firing on "Tarantula," amping an overdubbed, jabbing guitar attack that's on a definite mission to rock. But for all the six-string squealing, this is a lightly produced affair. It's raw enough to feel like the Pumpkins are blasting at you from a tiny stage, threatening to smack the front line of the audience with their instruments because of cramped conditions. Billy Corgan's unique enunciations are subdued and the drums are an enthusiastic clamor. All add up to a positive indicator for the band's July 10 album, "Zeitgeist." —Christa L. Titus

Is it just me, or does this song ROCK harder than the average Pumpkins song, or at least, the ones that are played on the radio. There is the nice melodic breakdown but at times, from the guitars, I get a hair-metal vibe from this. I really like it though, despite only hearing it twice.

I really am enjoying this song. I hope they have some "classic" sounding sounds though.

You know, I'm getting real sick and tired of the excruciating amount of b-sides that bands have been making and sending to various retail outlets. It was bad enough when they were being sent to foreign countries.

Why is Paris Hilton on the CD cover of this? Easy answer. Because she's EVERYWHERE. Smart move by the Pumpkins to get promotion. If there's one celebrity that they could use to promote themselves, she's perfect. ::Sighs:: It still sickens me with the amount of attention she gets for hardly doing anything.
