Looks like this is going to be a very summer-ish album.

I don't really like the video. The cinematography is so foggy. I imagined something with a little more sun and Kenny just keeps getting uglier and uglier. youtube.com/watch?v=kRso_pWWlkY

Kenny just keeps getting uglier and uglier. Ha ha. :) I don't get why the Starting Line are having their first Top 50 hit in 2007. I mean, why now, all of a sudden?

Because their previous singles sucked, period. "The Best of Me" was mediocre, the only thing going for it was the video played out like the movie Say Anything. "Bedroom Talk" from the second album was even worse with some off-putting lyrics like "I'm gonna tear your ass up like we just got married and you're all mine now".
This song is a grand improvement, one of the best of the year.

This song is a grand improvement, one of the best of the year. I agree 100%. There are so many better songs off "Say It Like You Mean It" than "Best Of Me" like "Given The Chance", "Leaving", "Hello Houston", etc. That line you mention in "Bedroom Talk" has annoyed me to hell since the first time I've heard it. It just makes no sense for an emo band of that caliber to have a lyric like that. From the few new songs I've heard them play live a few months ago, this new album should be rather impressive as that other song on their MySpace called "Direction" is quite different than anything else I've ever heard them release.

I don't know, the more I hear that line, the more I find it strangely ironic. Because you wouldn't expect a band like that to have a chorus like that, would you? Maybe Hinder, cause it's a fratboy mentality. It's funny because it's so absurd. But then maybe that was the point, since it is more or less a slang phrase and the song seems to be about unfulfillment. Maybe it's making fun of that mentality. Dare I suggest a deeper meaning?

If there's only shitty quality then it hasn't really leaked. Remember that kids.

While that is great advice that I give the nod to, I can't help but laugh at some of the total crap quality versions I have of some songs from the early 2000s. Pen, I think I've showed this to you a long while ago, but anyway I have this version of Our Lady Peace's "Somewhere Out There" where it sounds like it was recorded off the radio onto a cassette in some kid's bedroom. When the song is over, you can hear him press stop on the stereo, and then he has an argument with his friend about how to turn off the recorder. You just don't hear funny shit like that anymore

According to AbsolutePunk, The Starting Line sold approximately 20,207 copies of their new album in its first week.
So, does anyone else have any feedback on what they think of it? After one listen, I'd say the opening track "Direction" is pretty sweet, but the rest of the album kind of drowns on into one long emofest. It's going to be a grower on me. I can see that now.

Wow, no wonder they're finally having success. This song is good. It was playing as my alarm went off this morning. I didn't know what it was, but figured it had to be this, especially since they're playing KPNT's radio fest later on. I always say that every band is capable of having at least one great song. This must be theirs. Curiously, though, while I was very impressed while hearing it wake me up, I've played the video and listened on their MySpace now, and it didn't live up to my memory of what I heard earlier.

This reminds me of Alkaline Trio's "Time to Waste". That one and "Island" strike me as attempts at a more serious direction from each band - and both of them worked for me. Definitely a step up from what I've previously heard from these guys (admittedly, not much).

Its one of my favorite albums of the year now and better than Based On A True Story. I don't know what to expect from this song chart-wise now. Its doing better than I expected so if it ends-up at a decent peak, I think they should follow this up with "Birds".
