Yeah, a couple of them (especially "Sick Sad Little World") grew on me too. It wasn't a BAD album but it certainly didn't sound anything like I expected it to, and I think that was the same for a lot of people who were more "Make Yourself"/"S.C.I.E.N.C.E." fans like myself. It doesn't have the heaviness of those records or the prettiness of "Morning View." It does have an edginess, and riskiness to it which I respect, but I think it really did turn a lot of Incubus fans off...just look at the amazon.com customer ratings for "Crow" vs. their other albums. I admit it was unfair of me to say it was mediocre, but I meant mediocre as far as my personal liking of it, and quite a lot of people agree. The two albums that preceded "Crow" were pretty hard not to like, whereas "Crow" was more polarizing I feel.

I, too, was fairly disappointed by ACLOTM. And because of that, I didn't buy Light Grenades, because I wanted to hear the whole thing first. (I probably would've bought it anyway if I had had the money at the time.) I only got to download it for free a couple months ago and still haven't even listened to it yet.
Not only did ACLOTM make me cautious about buying further Incubus albums, it made me uninterested in shelling out the money to see them live anymore. They've come through here in support of ACLOTM and now LG, and I didn't go, whereas after Morning View, I drove 3 hours to see them by myself, hoping to meet up with a friend there. (Which I did, but I mostly had to watch the show alone.)
It wasn't a bad record or anything, but it wasn't a good Incubus record. I felt like a good 4-6 of the songs wouldn't be missed if they'd been left off.
By the way, I don't find "Oil and Water" to be anything special, coming from Incubus.

I'm more of a fan of their "Science" and "Make Yourself" material as well, but I still liked the past three albums quite a bit and am glad that Incubus sounds the way they do now. Their old sort of old school 311 sound would have never got them anywhere close to the success that they have now.
