According to their new bio on TotalAssault, this will be the first single from their upcoming Sire debut, New Wave, and FMQB lists a single add date for July 16th, although it must be noted that FMQB says TBA so it might still be up in the air. At any rate, I'm quite excited about the prospect of new Against Me!.

To be honest, I'm not a big fan, although some of my friends are. However, it would be interesting to see how the songs would push at radio. It's funny, people seemed to have argued a lot more about the band's sire deal when Former Clarity was out.

I would assume the single is "White People for Peace," considering they just put up a cool video for it, with presumably the biggest budget they've ever had... www.againstme.net/am.php/video/indexDig the tune, too, except for the chord in the chorus where Tom sings, "in response to military aggression." It's totally dissonant in regards to the chords being played/sung.

Even though you may be right, I would not assume anything just based on a video, considering how often videos are made and passed in this day and age. Hint: the answer is often.

If it were a low-budget performance video, that'd be one thing, but it's not and they are on a major label now...so we'll see.

I think this could actually stand a chance. Needs more "ba ba"s though.

Billboard.biz: Against Me! earns its first ink on any singles chart this week, as "Thrash Unreal" debuts at No. 37 on the Alternative/Modern Rock chart. The song garnered 1.9 million in radio audience for the week ending July 29 -- 38% of that came from KROQ Los Angeles, which played the song 17 times last week.

I just saw the video on YouTube. Its like impossible not to read a discussion about AM! without the typical sellout debate. This is definitely the catchiest song I've heard from them so far but their sound is still the same to me when comparing some of the tracks I heard off their previous album.
I read some review of the new album comparing them to Chumbawamba and this being their "Tubthumping".

Any time somebody's favorite indie band writes something catchy that blows up they've sold out, because obviously they're supposed to stay underground and keep being their favorite band that nobody knows about.

Well, to be honest, I can totally see how longtime fans would be upset with the music and production values on this album. Pretty much the only constant from the last album to this is Tom's voice.
Being such a relatively new fan, I haven't had too long of a chance to get cozy with their sound of yore, so I don't care either way how they sound now. All I know is "Thrash Unreal" is a good-ass song and I like it more and more each time I hear it.
The album's not as amazing as the media machine would have you believe. It's not like they're the saviors of "punk rock" and this record will revolutionize anything.

Well, if you've read all the reviews and articles you'd come across in Rolling Stone, Spin, Alternative Press, Blender, and Revolver the past few issues about Against Me! and New Wave, you'd hear all about it. The hype machine is out of control.

I guess that explains it. I don't read any of those. They've always struck me as, well, not knowing what they're talking about half the times. Magazines generally don't.

Well, I always draw my own conclusions, but I subscribe to those magazines (I canceled my Spin subscription a couple years ago, but still buy the occasional issue and always look through the current one at work on a lunch break or something) because they inform me of what all's going on in their own fragmented niches of pop music. Sucks that I can't compile all the stuff that's useful to me in one magazine and save some money.

I get all my news from just like four or five sources. But then I don't follow pop music, I just follow rock.

I can't believe this is in the top 5 in Canada-Rock. I mean, it's a good song, but that good? It sounds so bizarre on the radio.
