It's a real rat race between these two...
I honestly think it's too close to call, but I think the hype for the SP release may sustain "Tarantula" just a little longer, and therefore, may gave them the edge.

Hmm, I would say the possible #1 album debut next week can give the necessary push to the Stripes. Then "Tarantula" should get to the top, but with a new LP single rising I don't know for how long.

I think they'll both get at least a week at #1, but "Tarantula" will get it first. However, Linkin Park will probably get another 2-3 weeks at the top in the meantime.

I originally voted for "Tarantula", but I'd like to change it to Joyce Drake's "U + Ur Bible".

Smashing Pumpkins I think will do it, plus it is an amazing song.

Well Linkin Park just lost the top spot again to Ozzy on both Rock mainstream and Active Rock but they keep their Alternative crown since they debuted (how many weeks ago??).
With the new single being released LP finally has a triple digit fall, its possible that White Stripes will take the top spot soon, both songs are kinda stalling (well understandable considering their spins and not ALOT of songs on alternative gets 2k+ spins).

Since all 12 of those weeks have been at #1, this unofficially makes this their biggest alternative hit yet, beating out "Numb"'s 11 weeks at the top.

I don't see "Icky Thump" making it at this point, given the White Stripes has already landed while the Smashing Pumpkins still have pre-sales week hype to run with.
"Tarantula" will be the next #1 all but certainly, but I wouldn't rule out "Paralyzer" topping the chart shortly after, especially given its already proven streak of longevity.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Linkin Park's new single is clearly the best and most dominant of the three, and I wouldn't mind that single holding on for another umpteen weeks until "Icky Thump" and "Tarantula" lose their bullet. More likely...that won't happen. It's a little unnerving how predictable the #1 spot has become in recent years, but the Stripes look like they will overtake SP by next week. They'll likely get a #1 for a couple weeks before Three Days Grace or the new Linkin Park take over, which could be awhile, I guess. I wonder how much closer the Almost will get....they are clearly the breakthrough Warped band of this year ( Tortuga, you were correct!). And, oscillations, I love you, I really do, but you weren't correct on Linkin Park sliding quickly after a few-week run at #1. Make that 13 weeks and counting for Chester, Mike, and the boys!!!!!

My roots are with hip hop though but I've always loved Rock, just don't talk about it as much as CHR/Pop :) Wow @ 12 going on 13 weeks @ #1 on Alternative. That's insanity, this song is in no way better than "Numb" but right now Linkin Park is like the staple of Rock, that's been on quite a roll lately - so I think this run, meaning no disrespect, but its almost by default Still impressive as hell though! Yah Linkin Park sure did have a great run on the mainstream. I wonder what their next single on pop will be and hope their new single on rock does well! Looking at it now, LP might go 16 weeks straight and NiN will have revenge for them getting kicked off right away by LP and claim #1 with their new song LOL. That would be insane...

07/20/2007 (4:02 AM PST update): 2 1 WHITE STRIPES Icky Thump 2007 Third Man/Warner Bros. 2157 2112 45 7.759 1 2 LINKIN PARK What I've Done 2007 Warner Bros. 2156 2248 -92 10.547 It took a few months, but there's a new #1... And it's not "Bleed It Out" as I feared...

My fear was that it might have been a store-bought #1 for "Paralyzer" instead of either of the two contenders in this poll. It unfortunately has replaced "Tarantula" as the next strongest contender, however.
I'm voting for "Icky Thump".

I'm voting for "Icky Thump". That was awesome. LOL. Wow I can't believe Smashing Pumpkins didn't get it, something finally had to give though. Does the Billboard Rock charts go by AI more than spins? If so LP might still be reigning but as for Alternative Mediabase charts their reign is finally OVER after 16 weeks on top?! That's insane, most of my rock friends say that song isn't even great.. sure the first 5 weeks was cuz of hype and name, but the rest of the 11?! :o Congrats to White Stripes!

If a song like "What I've Done" can spend 16 weeks on top, I can only imagine what "Bleed It Out" will do.

Congrats to White Stripes! BB goes by spins too, and since "Icky Thump" got to #1 on Mediabase late in the week LP could definitely get their 16th week on top. This week on Modern Rock: 1 1 15 WHAT I'VE DONE LINKIN PARK 2007 spins (+24)/9.696 Aud. 2 3 12 ICKY THUMP WHITE STRIPES 1924 spins (+61)/7.319 Aud.

By the time WID's impressions drop, Bleed It Out will be #1 in impressions (and not too far behind in spins).
