My brother hates them now because of the Nike commercial & Maroon 5 tour. It doesn't really bother me because any ambitious band is destined to sell out at some point & I could care less.
But yeah, I'm not wild about this one just yet.

My brother hates them now because of the Nike commercial & Maroon 5 tour. Haha, so the Timbaland song didn't bother him? I thought it was terrible. I haven't liked them since "Walk Idiot Walk". What a serious letdown from "Hate To Say I Told You So".

Ugh, I'm going to be reminded of that horrible Saliva song from 2001 every time I see the title.
Is anyone else having trouble playing the song? When I click on the song title on their MySpace page, nothing happens.

What a serious letdown from "Hate To Say I Told You So". He wasn't crazy about the Timbaland collaboration, but the fact that Timbaland is critically acclaimed made it (just barely) acceptable. He's 17 & going through that authenticity-seeking phase, I guess. It's a completely necessary process to go through as a music fan, and he'll move on eventually. It's like when you make the leap from reading comprehension to analyzing literature. It's a long transition.

I just downloaded the live version: www.culturebully.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/08/the-hives-tick-tick-boom-ruisrock-2007.mp3It's okay. I just hope the new album is really good. I mean I actually did love their last album (not quite as much as VVV, but not many albums can match that).

I actually challenged him on that and he just won't speak of them anymore. He's conflicted now. ;)

Ugh, I'm going to be reminded of that horrible Saliva song from 2001 every time I see the title. That thought had crossed my mind, too, only I'll probably get past that eventually, knowing the Hives have probably never even heard of that song.

...and based on that clip alone, I like this better than Saliva's song.

Well, some people have a thinner sense of "critically acclaimed", if that makes any sense.

It's like when you make the leap from reading comprehension to analyzing literature. It's a long transition. Shout out to all the English Lit majors! I'm probably in the minority, but I loved Tyrannosaurus Hives. I think it surpasses VVV in quality. I've been waiting for this new album for a looooong time. I would really like to see them live, but if they're only opening for Maroon 5, doesn't that mean they are only going to play a 30-45 minute set? I don't think it's worth it... I'm a po' college student.

The album is getting positive buzz & is released this week, so I am sure that is helping airplay right now.

Is his sorta retro-ginormous ego supposed to be a joke, or is he actually that arrogant?
I don't mean to sound harsh, but I really like the sound in this new single. Definitely better than the disappointment that was "WIW". I didn't expect to like this, given the similarity in titles to this and the Saliva song (an unfair criticism, admittedly)....especially the "BOOM" part at the end.

The Hives supersized ego & mythbuilding rhetoric has been part of their image & attitude since the moment they formed. They even posted false reports of sales in the millions on their site a few years ago. I think they play a "meta" band - while still having the excellent music to justify their parodism. Pelle is the ultimate embodiment of a self-fulfilling prophecy: the type of star that we see larger than life, simply because he believes so himself. The Hives can handily convince everyone who crosses them that they are the biggest and best band to ever walk the earth, even if only for a moment.
P.S. Download "Try It Again". It needs to be the 2nd single!

Of course, I never believed Oasis or Tom Delonge either. Maybe I am unaffected by delusions of grandeur. I'm only giving you a hard time.

The Hives are the most amusing to me because their music is so heavily influenced by their own self-centeredness, whereas Gallagher and DeLonge just act that way to the media and fans. Neither of them, nor The Hives are the slightest bit convincing that it's actually true. It's just more entertaining that way with the Hives, while the others is just arrogance.
