This is the second from Under The Blacklight. Its my favorite song on the album. Jenny's vocals are gorgeous. Here's the video

Wow @ that video and this cd in general. I have always heard of RK and then I heard about Jenny Lewis's CD with the Watson Twins which I love but I have never heard the old RK output. This new CD is amazing to me. Personal faves: 15, Give A Little Love, The Moneymaker, Silver Lining, Breaking Up. Very solid. I think I will go see them in Boston. How did Moneymaker do as a single? I never heard it.

Rilo Kiley, as a band, has been on my radar since Portions for Foxes, due to magazine coverage, but that was the extent of it. Because they were an "indie" band and they never got played on the radio, I never heard any of the music and didn't go out of my way to listen to any of it. Unless "indie" rock singles end up on the radio, I'm usually never going to hear them. I'm usually unimpressed anyway, or not impressed enough, so why should I bother seeking it out?
Anyway, after reading (well, moreso than reading comprehension, seeing glowing ratings) reviews for Under the Blacklight and skimming their Spin cover story during a particular lunchbreak, they piqued my curiousity a little. Then one day I saw a promo copy of their new album sitting in a box of stuff that's up for grabs. I thought, "Huh. Interesting. I think I'll take this home and give it a listen." First I put it on in the store a couple different times and between then and the several times that I've played it in my car, oh my fucking god, I've quickly fallen in love with this album! It's gorgeous, diverse, fun, and just candy for your ears. If you like good music, you should definitely give this record a try. Fall weather hasn't even fully settled in yet, and already I can tell I'll be getting a lot of mileage out of this album in the coming months. It sounds perfect for fall.
When I went back to find this topic, I didn't realize this was already the second single. It's one of my favorites. When I went further back and saw the topic for "The Moneymaker," I was surprised, because I doubt that one is even among my favorite half of the album. After I've reached full enrichment from this album, I'll probably check out Portions for Foxes.
It sucks because I don't see their music fitting in with the Alternative radio climate any time soon. Maybe next time things will be different.

I love this album, while I don't care much for the old ones for some reason. I guess my fave from Under The Blacklight is "Close Call".

I actually first heard their music when I decided to, after the things I read about it, buy Under the BlackLight. I fell head over heels in love with that CD from start to finish. Then, I listened to some of their older stuff that my roommate had in preparation for their show in Boston that I went to on September 21st. I walked away from that show thinking that this band is one of my favorites now and I immediately purchased their last album "More Adventurous" (which has the song Portions for Foxes on it). That album is actually even better than this one but this one is more diverse and if you see this album live, you will be amazed. Hell, if you ever get the chance to see this band live, take it!

Its really a beautiful song. It has this classic aura to it, like something that would be a hit in another era.

Its really a beautiful song. It has this classic aura to it, like something that would be a hit in another era. It's definitely a change in pace, musically, for the band, with hints of gospel touching up the track. Most of their earlier material has pop-sensibility, dominated by wailing, crunching guitars. Just like Aimee Mann, the fact they actually have written many radio-friendly, melodic tracks, yet have earned virtually NO airplay from them, makes Rilo Kiley a criminally underrated band. And yes, Jenny Lewis stands out even more vocally on her side project "Jenny Lewis & the Watson Twins". Only Neko Case has a more majestic range vocally in the Alternative Country right now, in my opinion. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Definitely one of the best songs they've made.
