I was just listening to "Not Falling" the other day, when I got to thinking it was just about time for these guys to come out with something new... and voila, here it is.
Going for adds October 23rd. (AllAccess)

To make this clear, this is NOT, repeat NOT a single from their next album, called Shades Of Grey, which is due out sometime in 2008 once Hellyeah is done touring.
This is a single from their upcoming rarities album called For The People By The People, where fans are actually getting to vote on their website for the songs that will appear live on the album.

Bummer. I was hoping their new album was all ready to go. I'd forgotten about Chad's and Greg's current obligation to Hellyeah, despite seeing a St. Louis tour date listed just 20 minutes ago. I don't know if I'll be willing to shell out the money to see them. I don't even know if I'll be willing to shell out the money for this Mudvayne rarities album.

So is this a live song then? Well no. It's a studio song. There's also going to be a cover of The Police's "King Of Pain". It's a rarities album, so I guess there will be b-sides, demos, and then I guess the fans are voting on the live portion. I'm not too clear on this actually, but I know the polls for the album only have tracks from their official releases, so I assume it's just the live portion.

Well actually, unless things have changed, I think the album is all ready to go. They're just holding off on releasing it until they can properly tour.

You can hear this now at www.mudvayne.com/ It's a little too hard for my taste, but I'm not a very big Mudvayne fan to begin with.

I liked all the singles off their last album (unless you count "Determined"), but this is just...

...So basically what you guys are saying is that you're casual Mudvayne fans.
This is fairly tame by Mudvayne standards. Heck, it's even pretty streamlined and straightforward. It's nothing spectacular or anything, but it's solid. I don't expect much chart success from this. Something like Top 30 on Active, no-show on Alternative.

Will this Dull Boy single affect any future Hellyeah releases from their (pretty) decent debut album? I wouldn't think the single by itself would have too much of an effect since it's only from a compilation and not a full-fledged release, but remember that both Mudvayne and Nothingface want to release new albums next year. I think after their current tour with Korn, the members will probably go back to their other projects. Whether another Hellyeah single could arrive inbetween now and then, dunno.

Track listing confirmed.
1. "Dig" (Live) 2. "Silenced" (Demo) 3. "Dull Boy" 4. "Death Blooms" (Demo) 5. "Fall Into Sleep" (Demo) 6. "Not Falling" (Demo) 7. "-1" (Live) 8. "Happy" (Demo) 9. "(Per)version Of A Truth" (Demo) 10. "World So Cold" (Live) 11. "On The Move" 12. "Goodbye" 13. "Skrying" (Demo) 14. "All That You Are" (Demo) 15. "Forget To Remember" (Acoustic) 16. "King Of Pain"
Now I'm going to say exactly what I said on Tunelab about this.
I really don't like the way they went about this.
For one, where is "Small Silhouette"? That track should've definitely made this collection.
But mostly, when I went to vote they had a list of all the tracks on each album that I had to vote from, and I honestly had no fucking clue what I was voting for.
Does this mean that if I voted for "Death Blooms" then that means I was really voting for the demo version? I mean, I had no fucking clue. I thought I was actually just voting on the live portion of the album, but maybe I wasn't.
If I wasn't, then I wish they had put up whether it was going to be a demo, remix, acoustic, live, or whatever so that I could've better decided what to vote for, because there are some things I would rather hear than others.
Now it looks like the album is padded out completely with demos, and unless they're very different from the originals, I don't really see this being that great of a collection.
They had a great idea in letting people vote for it, but they blew it in my opinion.

Seeing the tracklisting now doesn't make this album very essential for me.

Well it definitely got Active.....764 spins according to Mediabase from ZIP. It is a pretty straightforward banging song. Definitely mood music ..... what kind of mood that is .... not too sure.

The album is pretty much what I expected. Even though during the vocal interludes, Chad says the demos are very different from the originals, I really don't hear any differences. At least none that make this collection all that essential.

This has to be the label's doing. It was charting on Mainstream Rock a while back and now it says it's new on there too. If this were to explode out of the gate it would've done it a month ago.

I see this is predictably stalling around the 80-70 range on Mediabase-Alternative. I wonder if the moderate success of Hellyeah is having any kind of effect? I have yet to hear this on KQRC, and they played "Fall Into Sleep" like it was their job.
I read this was one of the newer recordings on the comp. album. It definitely is a throwback to their pre-Lost & Found days. The intro. gives it that raw sound....I like this a bit.
