This was pretty much a no-brainer for the second single.

I must have been in a really good mood when I wrote that post or something a few days ago ![](http://yoursmiles.org/ssmile/fun/s0270.gif) I typically don't say something like that unless I'm talking to well (you know who). We have ghetto talk competitions, but she ALWAYS beats me.

I was thrilled Monday morning, when my local Alternative station played this, identifying it as "the new single" (when it hasn't even gone for adds yet and still isn't going next week). Granted it was inside a small block of specialty programming, but nevertheless.
I was half asleep when I heard this very familiar string intro on my radio. My eyes opened all the way. As soon as the riff kicked in, I knew it was "Afterlife" and I immediately rose out of bed.
Picture a fading-from-existence Marty McFly, strumming bad chords during "Earth Angel," or whatever song the band was playing at the time, and his revitalization once George gains his confidence and shoves away the jerk-off who stole Lorraine as his dancing partner. That's essentially what the scene looked like when I heard "Afterlife" start up.

Come on WPBZ! You're usually ahead of the curve! Let's get it going!

A decent start for this one as it debuts on a bed of 8 new detections. It by all means should be much higher among the greatest overall gainers (it's only eighth), especially considering what's ahead of it, but at least it looks like it'll beat the shit out of what "Beast and the Harlot" and "Seize The Day" were able to do.
They really did steal the show at Taste of Chaos, otherworldly compared to everyone else. I actually got tired of watching Atreyu dancing around like the bunch of screamo kids their latest single is pigeon-holing them as. BFMV were better than I expected (and the singer has one sexy as hell accent), but it's clearly A7X's tour.

Well f*** me; it's fallen out of the top 50 without a bullet. How incompetent can a record label be. You can't make this much nothing out of something unless you try.

that's such crap......I guess the lyrics make more sense now " I dont belong here"..... I would love to find out why this song is not getting played to death. I sure hope a rebound is in order.
Where did it peak???

lol, I didnt even think to ask which chart they were talking about. I actually assumed it was Active he was talking about. makes more sense at least. I'm sure there are alot of Alt stations that might not jump on this song. To be honest, in my head, this isnt alternative at all anyway.

I'm so mad I could spit nails. [/Mr. Dewey on Saved by the Bell] Meanwhile, Atreyu's The Used/Panic at the Disco-aping song (and one of at least two LSPA sore thumbs) just flies right into the Top 5, with #1 certainly not out of the question. ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png)

I always forget this forum is sometimes used for active rock discussion, in spite of the forum's title. Yes the song's doing alright at Active.
The bottom line though is that "Bat Country" and "Almost Easy" were top 10 Alternative hits. From that alone you'd think the only way followup singles to those songs were to miss the top 50 is for radio stations to be paid not to play them.

I have a feeling alot of casual listeners dont get far enough into the song to really give this a chance to catch their attention. I still think this has time to rebound on Alt, if they are willing to spin it there. I really wish though( and i know it wont EVER happen) , that Alt would go back to being more R.E.M. Morrissey, Jesus and Mary Chain, Cure type bands. Ever since grunge invaded, they took over Alternative. I love this song, but this isnt Alternative in my mind, this is Rock......and its rock at its finest.

Eat it suckaface. "Afterlife" does deserve better though.

It's cause it's a good song. Eat it suckaface. "Afterlife" does deserve better though. I agree that "Falling Down" is a good song. It just doesn't represent who they are at all. Meanwhile, "Afterlife" is at least 10 times better and represents Avenged very well. Seriously, every piece of the song is a hook, "Almost Easy" was a Top 10 hit that went recurrent this week after half a year on the chart. This song, while not as straightforward, is even catchier. The fans love this song, why isn't the rest of the country seeing it? EDIT: It even has its own killer air-drum part, like the double-cymbal, double-bass blast fills during the main riff of "Almost Easy." The snare and cymbal hits that match the guitar rhythm in the pre-choruses.
