Ja's #1's do count because J.Lo surely wasn't going anywhere by herself. His producers and writers and his hip-hop appeal at the time helped him go to #1. I doubt she would've went to #1 with her versions of the songs. That's why I said it's debatable. I personally don't count 'I'm Real' the remix as being the song that hit #1. Did R&R give credit to it? I see 'I'm Real' as being the third single from her album 'J-Lo' and then 'Ain't It Funny' as the first single from the remixes CD.

I don't think there's anything to debate about. If an artist gets the official credit for appearing in the song, whether s/he did contributed anything to it is irrelevant. Therefore, claiming that J. Lo couldn't have reached #1 on her own to justify crediting Ja Rule with the #1 is unnecessary.

Huh? ???
All I'm saying is, as far as I'm concerned, the official hit version of 'I'm Real' is the one without Ja Rule. But I guess that's from a mainly Canadian radio point of view.

I see 'I'm Real' as being the third single from her album 'J-Lo' and then 'Ain't It Funny' as the first single from the remixes CD. Billboard did. R&R has an inconsistency way of crediting artists. Just look at the current pop chart, "Suga Suga" is credited to only Baby Bash, but I'm sure you would agree that Frankie J has a huge part in making the song a hit. As well, they didn't credit Ja Rule in "Ain't It Funny" either. I only saw that in the magazine, Ja Rule was credited in the CHR/Rhythmic chart and not on the CHR/Pop chart. Don't forget "J.Lo" was re-released with the remix attached on there, so technically it IS the third single off of the album. All I'm saying is, as far as I'm concerned, the official hit version of 'I'm Real' is the one without Ja Rule. But I guess that's from a mainly Canadian radio point of view. That's not exactly true either. In Toronto, all 3 CHR stations at the time never played the original, instead played the remix with Ja Rule. And we all know Toronto is the centre of the universe. ;)

The Vancouver station began with the original versions of both "I'm Real" and "Ain't It Funny" before introducing the Ja Rule remix versions.
Was Avril Lavigne's "I Don't Give" an official single, or did some stations just decide to play it?

Hmmm... I suppose. But why did AT40 not play the remix? LOL!!
I still consider the original the single.

I consider the remix to "I'm Real" to be the official version. It's better than the original, anyway.

Another observation on Live's comeback: Out of all the artists that have charted since my R&R records started in 1989, they have the new record for the longest to follow up a top 10 hit. It's been 8 years and 7 months since their last top 40 hit and top 10 hit "Lightning Crashes" entered the top 40. I know this is "old news", but I thought that I'd comment that unless he slipped some song into the top 40 that I'm not aware of, I think the all-time record might be Meat Loaf. He peaked at #4 in 1978 with "two out of three ain't back" and didn't return until 1993 with "I would do anything for love", which made it to #3.
