Been Number 1 For Multiple Weeks Both Times? "Here Without You" is trying to do this. "I'm Real (Remix)" and "Fallin'" did this competing with each other on the Billboard Hot 100. "Dilemma" also did it on the Billboard Hot 100.

In 1999, Sugar Ray's "Every Morning" was #1 for 4 weeks, then Cher's "Believe" went to the top, then Sugar Ray took over the top spot again for another 2 weeks.
At least this is what happened on Rick Dees's show; I'm thinking Rick must have used a mid-week Mediabase chart or something, because "Believe" only peaked at #2 according to R&R.
I can't think of any other recent examples on the CHR/Pop chart, but in 1998, on the Hot 100, Monica's "The First Night" had non-consecutive multiple weeks at #1.

In R&R, "Love Don't Cost A Thing" and "Again" played music chairs with each other.
Further back, there was "Truly Madly Deeply" and "The Sign."
In Billboard, in happend with "9 to 5" and I believe "Down Under." Also, "The Sign," "I Knew I Loved You" and "Butterfly" (I think).

Further back, there was "Truly Madly Deeply" and "The Sign." Woah! You mean they leap-frogged each other over the course of four years. ;) Actually it was "Truly Madly Deeply" and "My Heart Will Go On" On the other hand, "The Sign" swapped with "The Most Beautiful Girl In The World" due to the PPW switchover.

No, Rick just messed around with the chart so "Believe" could be number one for a week. Cher may have been an in-studio guest that weekend. He did the same with "As Long As You Love Me" by the Backstreet Boys; artificially moved them up to the top on a week they were his guests.

I know "Love Don't Cost A Thing" and "Again" battled but I'd like to see the chart runs while both songs were in the Top 2.

In Billboard, there were 2 in '98:
Too Close/My All The First Night/One Week

www.onmc.iinet.net.au/top/1998.htmNeither "Too Close" nor "My All" was a nonconsecutive Number 1 with multiple weeks both times. "The First Night" did it. I don't care about the song in between like "One Week" unless both songs did it like "Fallin'" and "I'm Real (Remix)." "I Knew I Loved You" on the Billboard Hot 100 was only for one week the second time. "Butterfly" (if you're talking about Crazy Town) was only Number 1 for one week on both ends. Boyz II Men and Nelly are artists that replaced themselves at Number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and had one of the songs be a nonconsecutive Number 1.

No one seemed to notice that the question was nonconsecutive #1 runs with multiple weeks at #1 on BOTH ENDS!
I don't think it's ever been done on R&R chr/pop. All the nonconsecutive #1's I can think of had only a single week in the "nonconsecutive" spot.

All the nonconsecutive #1's I can think of had only a single week in the "nonconsecutive" spot. If the requirement is to have multiple weeks on both runs, then you're correct, thisbeautifulness. It has never been done on the R&R CHR/Pop chart. Every song that has ever returned to the #1 spot has only done so for 1 week. For the record, a complete listing of all #1 returnees and the songs they swapped with, in chronological order: Wks @ #1 - Artist - Title19742 - Elton John - Benny And The Jets 1 - Blue Swede - Hooked On A Feeling 1 - Elton John - Benny And The Jets 19755 - Elton John - Philadelphia Freedom 1 - Tony Orlando and Dawn - He Don't Love You (Like I Love You) 1 - Elton John - Philadelphia Freedom 19948 - Ace Of Base - The Sign 2 - The Artist Formerly Known As Prince - The Most Beautiful Girl In The World 1 - Ace Of Base - The Sign 19982 - Savage Garden - Truly Madly Deeply 9 - Celine Dion - My Heart Will Go On 1 - Savage Garden - Truly Madly Deeply 20012 - Lenny Kravitz - Again 1 - Jennifer Lopez - Love Don't Cost A Thing 1 - Lenny Kravitz - Again 1 - Jennifer Lopez - Love Don't Cost A Thing An in 2003, it looks like "Here Without You" could reclaim #1 from "Baby Boy". But for how many weeks, is anybody's guess.

On the R&R combined chart "How You Remind Me" was #1 for 4 weeks, then "Get the Party Started" took over for 3 weeks, and then "HYRM" went back to #1 for 3 weeks. (This is including my estimates for the combined charts for the 2 week break as well).
