And going in the other direction, "When I'm Gone" was a big format charter as well. It was big on:
CHR/Pop Hot AC Alternative Rock Active Rock
Did it do anything on Triple-A?

I would think the same goes for Evanescence. This is about multiple formats and so doesn't belong in the CHR-Pop forum. Norah Jones: "Don't Know Why" Adult Contemporary Hot Adult Contemporary Triple A CHR-Pop Smooth Jazz Somebody said it got Adult Standards airplay also.

Total Spins (All Formats) for "Crazy In Love": 255,594+ (Do not have Urban AC & Hot AC.) Total Spins (All Formats) for "When I'm Gone": 380,034
Even with Hot AC & Urban AC I dont think "CIL" would get ahead of "WIG".
Therfore, "When I'm Gone" is the biggest format charter of 2003.

Do those spins for 3DD include Triple A? I do remember seeing it in the top 30 on the chart.

Sorry, but the most accurate thing to go by is Audience Impression, therefore Beyonce wins by miles!

Radiorules--you're right, but I don't really think it makes sense considering audience impressions when you're talking about different music formats. Everyone knows that Urban and R&B get way more audience impressions than rock or AC formats. And besides, the R&R charts don't even consider audience impressions, and those are the charts we're discussing in this thread.
However, audience impressions are definitely important, as they consider the actual people who hear the song. If one does go by audience impressions, the way Billboard does, than I guess the biggest hits this year on multiple formats were "Crazy In Love", "In Da Club", and "Ignition".

If it's not fair to compare audience impression because some formats get more audience then others, then it's totally not fair to consider spin totals, considering some formats play songs more than others.

Good point. I guess the best thing to do would be to look at the year end chart for each respective music format and see which songs do the best on the most formats.

And it's also not fair to use audience impression because the r&r charts don't include indicator stations from small market towns. I'm sure "crazy in love" wouldn't be very high relatively speaking in those.
No one never really brings up the point regarding the exclusion of indicator/small market stations when comparing the successes of songs, and I'm not really sure why.

yea, audience would be so incaccurate. Spins is by far more accurate and thats what Mediabase uses to calculate the year-end.
