John Mayer was interviewed on the local station on Friday and said his new single is "Come Back to Bed".
I don't think it's a bad choice, but I think it will MUCH more successful at Hot AC than at Top 40. Opinions?

This has to be a joke. I think it is one of the worst tracks to even consider as a single candidate, with "Wheel" and "Home Life" being the other two.
If "Come Back To Bed" is indeed the second single from "Heavier Things", it is going to flop miserably, not only on CHR/Pop, but on Hot AC as well. This may be the official move that alienates John Mayer to Triple A only from now on.
If John Mayer wants to stick in the CHR/Pop or Hot AC limelight longer, he can do one of two things. The first option is the selling-out move, and that is re-mixing "Daughters" and releasing the re-mix as a single. The second is to take a dare and release "Clarity" as that is an ultimate favorite among John Mayer's offical web-site discussion board fans.
"Come Back To Bed" is a flop waiting to happen because:
1) It's duration exceeds 5 minutes. 2) It has the slowest tempo out of any song off the album, both to my ears and according to John Mayer's lyric book (60 BPM) 3) On top of it all, it's a ballad.
John Mayer, knowing the joker that you are, I hope this is a joke too, because if it isn't, the joke's on you if you expect this to hit outside of Triple A.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I haven't heard this song, but I realized John Mayer isn't really the best at choosing singles.

I really like John Mayer's music, but if Bigger Than My Body can't do better than that on pop (I thought it was an excellent pop song) I don't have much hope for anything that follows.

I don't mind "Come Back To Bed", but it's still Mayer in YBIAW-mode. Not as bad as "Daughters", but still. Oh well, if this gets him off of pop radio fine by me. If not, I'll celebrate an unexpected hit.
If he wanted a slow song, I'd have gone with "Something's Missing" over this one.

I don't think this will do well.
As for "Why Georgia", it was a great song, but "Neon" might have made a better single choice.

He did "Clarity" on the Tonight Show. I still don't expect it to overtake "CBTB" for the next single though, since I've seen TV ads for the album "featuring 'Bigger Than My Body' and 'Come Back to Bed'".

If he wanted a slow song, I'd have gone with "Something's Missing" over this one. I agree. This is my second favorite John Mayer song ever, and while it isn't too radio-friendly, I think it's at least a lot more radio-friendly than "CBTB." If John Mayer wanted a Pop hit, he would have gone with "Only Heart." The fact that he didn't choose that as a single tells me that he could care less about a Pop hit though.

He did "Clairity" last night on Leno. GOD I hope that isn't the next single! Why is he so in love with the song? It's a great album track, but should not be released. Anyway, I've always thought that Something's Missing would be the perfect single, and I can also see Come Back To Bed doing well if edited properly.

And "clarity" also received 3 triple-A adds this week somehow, so it appears that two second singles are being played on triple-A.
