lol, whoa @ Sunrise's drop
That song (the dance version/mix) was a huge hit on z103.5 during the latter part of the summer (I remember really starting to like it around mid-August, that is when they first started playing it) and it went on to be a huge hit on their station til about the end of September, I guess. Not incredibly long, but the way they overplayed that song, it sure felt like alot longer than 6 weeks or so.
I remember first thinking it was a remake of an old 80s song or something, just remixed, as are alot of dance songs these days.
Outkast making huge leaps on the chart, reflecting the US charts.
TLC and Lil Jon going for adds? I thought they scrapped this? Should be interesting to see if z103 or Flow add it, but I doubt it, on z103 anyway.
I'm Lovin It got the #1 most adds?? wtf? Isn't this song like 2 months old? Flow has been playing it for a while, never in high rotation, but I've yet to hear it on z103.
Obie Trice got the 5th most adds? Huh? lol that isn't a 'pop' song...z103 featured it on "Pump it or Dump it" this week...and Im surprised that z103 hasn't even put Jay-Z "Change Clothes" on their radar. I have yet to hear that song once on there. Im sure they will play it out eventually, but it's weird that they havent touched it yet. Come to think of it, I think it's been in a few of their mixshows when it first leaked to radio, but other than that I haven't heard it.
Cot damn! at "Shut Up" jumping from 20-9 :o
This song isn't THAT good, IMO. Today I heard a different version of it in Flow, same vocals and lyrics, just the beat seemed a bit different, more slowed down.
I've noticed z103 has started to play "Get Low" a bit more recently.
Did Missy "Pass that Dutch" completely drop off the chart?? lol, didn't it debut like last week?
wtf, CHUD is still at #7? lol...that song is sooo July
Thanks SOOO much for posting this info!

The song heavily samples I Can't Go For That (No Can Do) by Hall and Oats, early 80's.
CHUD took off a lot later in Canada than the U.S.
My question about No Doubt or Black Eyed Peas being the next no. 1 doesn't seem so stupid now, eh? LOL!!

20 09* THE BLACK EYED PEAS -- Shut Up Is this song THAT big in Canada? It flopped in the US, peaking at # 30 I think

How often do you get an artist not just on the chart at the same time with more than one song (that *is* common nowadays, with all the collaborations), but with both songs climbing and competing against each other? I'm refering to Outkast, of course.
37 21* OUTKAST -- Hey Ya!
30 24* OUTKAST/SLEEPY BROWN -- The Way You Move

We must keep in mind that there are 3 urbans and 1 CHR/Rhythmic (94.5 The Beat, Vibe 98.5, Flow 93.5 and HOT 89.9) that report to the Nielsen BDS CHR chart. I don't know why this is, but that is BDS policy. Canadian Music Network includes these stations as well as other add info from non-monitored urban/rhythmic stations (Wild 101, 95.7 The Beat) when compiling it's most added @ CHR list.
Perhaps the introduction of the new CHR/Rhythmic station (91.5 The Beat) in Kitchener Ontario slated to go on the air in January will force BDS to create a seperate Urban airplay chart. I'm not holding my breath however.

Is this song THAT big in Canada? It flopped in the US, peaking at # 30 I think it's getting quite a bit of airplay on canadian top 40 stations, which i find to be a good thing.

Hmm I still don't know about "It's My Life" or "Shut Up" being the next #1, but I guess it's possible
They just don't strike me as #1 songs, Canada or not
and yes, that's true about this chart taking info from Flow and other Urban stations, which explains "The Set Up" getting adds, as well as "Shut Up" doing as well as it is, getting play on all the stations that report to this chart.
Last night I was trying to remember if I EVER heard "Shut Up" on CHR/Pop Kiss 98.5 WKSE in Buffalo, which we get here in Toronto. I dont think I ever heard it once on that station. It won their battle of the new songs a couple of times, but I dont even remember hearing it then
So yea, it is bigger here than it was in the US, I don't know why...but it was #1 on z103 for a good while there and as I said, Flow is starting to play it now.
Interesting about the new 91.5 The Beat in Kitchener...I wonder if we will be able to tap into that signal here in Toronto? The more radio stations, the better, lol I believe they are owned by the same company as z103.5
I'm trying to listen to Wild 101.1 more, but the signal is somewhat choppy. It could be just my imagination, but maybe their signal got boosted because I was in the car earlier, and I could hear it crystal clear at some points, but maybe I was just in a good patch or something. Even on the stereo in my room, I was able to hear Wild 101 crystal clear...now, there is a bit of static, but for the most part, I can hear it fairly clearly.
They report as CHR/Rhythmic to Mediabase, they are CKEY-FM, so they don't report to anything on the Canadian side, right?
They do play Canadian music, though, like Choclair, Keshia Chante, Shawn Desman, etc.
my only complaint about Wild 101, other than it is hard to get good reception at times, is that some of the songs they play sound different than other stations..just as an example, its like the vocals on "Walked Outta Heaven" are sped up, it's weird, it sounds like a fake song or something...they do it with other songs, too, the vocals are sped up, it sounds weird

Sorta related, I'm just taking a look at this week's MuchMusic Top 30 Countdown...
I see "So Yesterday" drops from #4 to #10 this week, I know it was as high as #2 a few weeks ago, but did it ever reach #1 for just one week? Or did Baby Boy keep it out?
OutKast "The Way You Move" moves up from #9 to #8 this week, while "Hey Ya!" is just making its debut this week, at #24.
The oldest song on the countdown is easily 50 Cent "PIMP", which drops from #16 to #22. LMAO...this video came out, in what, late June?? and the funniest thing is, did it even hit #1 on this countdown? I dont think it did
This countdown is notorious for having ancient videos remain on it for months.
It's just interesting to see how even the video countdown differs from the US charts.
Black Eyed Peas "Shut Up" is up 2 to #13 this week, Pink "Trouble" is up 1 to #6, OBIE TRICE "Got Some Teeth" is up 2 to #3
...all of those songs were flops in the US
and Billy Talent "Try Honesty" is a pretty good song, but its still only #2 on this chart??
damn they really do move slow, dont they?

It's kinda annoying, though I've heard worse.
The MuchMusic chart is such a fraud, how the hell can Obie Trice be #2 with a song that peaked months ago? Where were Christina Aguilera's past 2 videos? Very ridiculous. It's so stupid that they just added "Headstrong" to their playlist like a month ago, even later than when it crossed over to CHR/Pop.

I agree totally about the Much countdown, I've had issues with that show for years, but I just gave up. I used to watch it religiously every Friday afternoon, back in like the 7th, 8th, 9th grade.
but then I just got fed up with it
CHUD didn't even make their countdown, but I believe Fighter did, right?
and they introduced that "Power Shift" one year ago, which is a "viewer voted" Top 30, I guess they finally gave in to all those complaint letters about the countdown, but still, they probably fix PowerShift also, just so it IS different from the Much Top 30.
The Voice Within was #29 or 28 on PowerShift, a few weeks ago.
That is true about Wild 101 speeding up songs to get more ads in, didn't think of that
Are u right in Toronto? Do u get Wild 101 clearly, or static, or horrible at times?
I wonder if we will be able to hear that new Kitchener station

CHUD didn't even make their countdown, but I believe Fighter did, right? Yes it did. I was referring to "The Voice Within" though.
I only watch the first part of the countdown to see the new videos.
I was travelling in summer a year ago and went passed Belleville. They have a CHR/Pop station there that speeds up every single song. It's sounded so bad that I couldn't stand it at all.
PowerShift isn't that bad, but they play too many requests, which defeats the purpose. So many songs made it on that chart and not on their countdown. But since most people that like urban music wouldn't even watch MuchMusic (since there's BET, most of my friends watch that instead), the chart is skewed towards alternative. Also, since they still have to follow the ridiculous 50% CanCon rule, I wonder if they rigged the chart.
I live in Mississauga, the reception for Wild is pretty bad, it's slightly worse than the reception to WKSE.

Yea, I find Much is very "Alternative" heavy, especially Canadian alternative rock.
I used to watch the Countdown just for the first 10 minutes, like you, just to catch the new entries. But I don't even bother with that anymore.
lol, about Wild and WKSE's reception in Sauga.
Yea, I just watch BET over Much 90% of the time anyways.
MuchMoreMusic's daily Top 10 can be interesting at times, and I think that actually might not be rigged, from one day to another its ridiculous. One day TVW was #3, the next day it was #9. And they were playing "Crazy in Love" as the #2 video as late as 2 weeks ago, I remember.

Yes, yes yes, the MM chart doesn't "mean" anything and is totally contrived. You really shouldn't watch it for the actual chart, but rather to see the actual videos. One of the reasons the videos move up so slowly is that the get a log jam of videos that the want to make no. 1, so, every week, it is a revolving door to get them all in. Videos could literally have runs like 29-27-23-22-16-13-10-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1-7-15-off. It makes things worse for the log jams that it combines CHR, Rock and Urban.

Yea...lol sometimes their videos are #1 one week, and then they drop to #10 or #11 the next week, I've seen it happen...I think they did that with Shawn Desman's "Shook" or Get Ready
I e-mailed them suggesting they do a Top 10 for each of the 3 formats (Pop, Urban and Rock), that seems like it would be a good idea.
Also, when MuchOnDemand premiered in February 2002, I got all excited thinking Much had finally jumped on the "Daily Top 10 video countdown" bandwagon, a la TRL and 106 & Park.
But all we got was something with "Vote-O-Matic's and a red-head stringbean named Jenn"

What sucks even more is the fact MTV Select used to be a Daily Top 10 Countdown show, and now they have a weekly Top 10 which spreads out through their 5 weekday shows. Now that really sucks.
