Dido, Britney Rule European Charts

LONDON (Billboard) - Women reign on both European sales charts, as Dido's "Life for Rent" (Cheeky/Arista) secures a seventh week atop Top 100 Albums, and Britney Spears (news)' "Me Against the Music" featuring Madonna (news - web sites) (Jive) opens at No. 1 on Eurochart Hot 100 Singles.
The Dido album returns to No. 1 in the U.K., passing sales of 1 million units in the process, and climbs 6-5 in France. The Spears single bows at No. 1 in Spain, Denmark and Ireland; No. 2 in the U.K.; and No. 5 in Germany. It climbs 19-2 in Norway.
The highest debut on Top 100 Albums is Pink's "Try This" (Arista), at No. 3. Her last set, "M!ssundaztood," opened at No. 5 in February 2002 and went on to a year-end No. 7 ranking on the composite Top 100 Albums chart. "Try This" opens at No. 2 in Germany and Austria, No. 3 in the U.K. (selling 61,000 units) and No. 5 in Norway. Pink kicks off a European tour Feb. 19 in Dublin.
German chart mainstay Herbert Gronemeyer opens at No. 7 on Top 100 Albums with "Mensch Live" (Capitol), after a No. 1 debut at home. That echoes the German performance of its studio predecessor, "Mensch," in September last year.
New at No. 8 on Top 100 Albums is Atomic Kitten's "Ladies Night" (Innocent/Virgin), which debuts in the U.K. at No. 5 with sales of 48,000 units.
Celine Dion (news)'s French-language album "Une Fille Et 4 Types" (Columbia) moves 11-10 in its fifth week on the pan-European chart, after climbing 4-1 in France, where it replaces Johnny Hallyday's live set "Parc des Princes 2003" (Mercury) at the top.
The three-CD set "The Essential Bruce Springsteen (news)" (Columbia) is new at No. 12, bowing at No. 4 in Norway, No. 5 in Ireland, No. 6 in Spain and No. 8 in Italy. It comes in at No. 28 in the U.K., where sales are split with a two-disc version, which bows at No. 32.
After "Me Against the Music," the highest entry on the Eurochart is Busted's "Crashed the Wedding" (Universal), at No. 6. The English boy band beats Britney in the U.K., coming in at No. 1 with sales of 55,000, and is new at No. 3 in Ireland and Denmark. Busted's self-titled debut album is still No. 38 in Britain in its 50th chart week, ahead of this week's release of "A Present for Everyone."
