On the albums chart... the 'predictable' thing has happened again with Delta #1 for her 26th week with "Innocent Eyes", and now certified 11 times platinum.
Debuts: #2 Greatest Hits - Red Hot Chili Peppers #29 7 - Enrique Iglesias #30 Beg For Mercy - G-Unit #32 The Singles 1992-2003 - No Doubt #47 Payable On Death - P.O.D.
Australian Idol winner Guy Sebastian debuts at #1 on the singles chart with his first single "Angels Brought Me Here". It is certified 3 times platinum in its first week... that has to be a record. I'm sure sales figures will emerge later on in the week.
Other debuts: #2 Shut Up - Black Eyed Peas #17 Hit That - The Offspring #23 Fortune Faded - Red Hot Chili Peppers #24 Be Faithful - Fatman Scoop #34 Pass That Dutch - Missy Elliott #43 Addicted - Enrique Iglesias #45 Show Me Your Soul - P. Diddy, Lenny Kravitz, Pharrell Williams & Loon

Delta rewrites chart history By Patrick Donovan Music Writer December 2, 2003
Delta Goodrem yesterday achieved another Australian pop milestone, with her debut album Innocent Eyes holding top spot on the national ARIA album chart for the 26th consecutive week - overtaking John Farnham's Whispering Jack, which spent 25 weeks at No. 1.
The only other album that has spent longer at the top of the Australian Record Industry Association chart is Dire Straits' Brothers In Arms, which spent 34 weeks at No. 1.
And Australian Idol victor Guy Sebastian's transition from television star to pop star is complete with his debut single, Angels Brought Me Here, shooting to the top of the singles chart with record sales.
Yesterday it became the fastest-selling local single in chart history, with 128,000 copies snapped up in a week, record company BMG Australia said.
It had the second-highest first-week single sales behind Elton John's Princess Diana tribute Candle in The Wind.
BMG said Sebastian's debut album, Just As I Am, would be released next week.
Goodrem's Innocent Eyes has now produced four No.1 singles, and a fifth single, Predictable, was the most played song on Australian radio over the past two weeks. Predictable was re-released yesterday with a bonus B-side of the John Lennon/Yoko Ono song Happy Xmas (War Is Over).
"This is unbelievable," Goodrem said yesterday. "I'm overwhelmed and so thankful that the Australian people have connected with my music the way they have. Thank you from the bottom of my heart and I look forward to seeing you all very soon."
Sony Music Australia and New Zealand chairman and chief executive Denis Handlin said Australian music was featuring prominently in the charts.
"This is a great day for Delta and she thoroughly deserves it." He said the 50 per cent proportion of Australian music in the charts was a great sign for the local industry.
Goodrem, 19, who is battling Hodgkin's disease, is now surpassing Kylie Minogue as Australia's most popular singer and could reach Celine Dion-type sales.
Innocent Eyes has now sold more than 770,000 copies (11 times platinum) in Australia and more than 800,000 in Europe.
Her self-titled DVD has sold more than 130,000 copies.

You can order it for a pretty cheap price with free postage from www.cdwow.com that's your best bet if you want the album.... 'cos it might be another year before it comes out in the USA.

I think her album has been released in some other countries in Europe as well. If you go to www.deltagoodrem.com they now have a section in German which is kinda funny! So she is now out in Germany as well.... but yeah, the vast majority of her Europe sales are from the UK. She had been in the UK top 20 albums from the album release til 2 weeks ago, and peaked at #2 so she has done very well there also... despite not getting airplay for whatever reason. Anyone have German charts or other Europe stats for Delta?

Off topic, but Sean "Too Lost In You" moves up to #8 and "Hole In The Head" falls to #4 in this week's UK airplay chart.
Delta's "Lost Without You" debut at #82 last week in Germany; its her first appearance in the country.

Where did you find this out? Is that the first single they released there or just the first one that made the charts? Great news about Sugababes! It's already a smash and it's brand new, I hope it goes to #1 airplay and sales like HITH.

How come the Red Hot Chili Peppers were so far apart on the two charts? "Shut Up" did much better than in the United States.

Well I think RHCP are more an album sales artist than a singles sales artist. Remember the charts are both based on sales... I don't see that many older males buying singles but they'd go out and buy the album. Also, the single is not getting much mainstream airplay.
