Delta Goodrem is again #1 on the albums chart achieving her 12th platinum certification for 27 weeks at #1 and 37 weeks on the charts.
When she achieves 14 platinum certifications which will easily happen... that will mean 1 million units. The population of Australia reached the 20 million milestone last week so 1 in 20 of all Australians will own "Innocent Eyes". That's equivalent to selling 14 million units in the USA (based on population size, not certifications!).
Album debuts:
#12 Splinter - The Offspring #18 Live In Texas - Linkin Park #38 Closer - Josh Groban #41 Top Of The World Live Tour - Dixie Chicks #43 The Diary Of Alicia Keys - Alicia Keys
With the Australian Idol winners' solo album due out this week, Delta needs to watch out as he will likely be #1 for at least a week.
Over on the singles chart, Australian Idol winner Guy Sebastian grabs his 2nd week at #1 with an amazing 4 platinum certifications in 2 weeks... what can I saw but *Australian Idol*!
Single debuts:
#2 Delta Goodrem - Predictable (not bad for a 5th single from an album that has already gone 12 times platinum! Any other week it would've been #1 but for the power of Australian Idol! Although her previous 2 #1 singles "Innocent Eyes" and "Not Me, Not I" also debuted at #2 before rising to #1 in their 2nd weeks). This single is certified 2 times platinum already.
#10 Behind Blue Eyes - Limp Bizkit #29 Sexed Up - Robbie Williams #40 Iz U - Nelly #41 Zebra - The John Butler Trio #43 Let It Snow! - Michael Buble #44 Signed, Sealed, Delivered I'm Yours - Blue #46 Clap Back- Ja Rule

For any Aussies out there, what do you think is keeping matchbox twenty's MTYTYA so high up on the charts? At first, the album fell rapidly out of the top 50, but it returned to the top ten with the hit "Unwell" and their tour down under this past summer...But I don't see what is keeping the album so high up on the charts right now, even though it definitely deserves it!
I wouldn't be suprised if the album continues to sell well as there is an online petition by Aussie fans that wants MB20 to return down under for another tour...According to the person running the petition, the guys in MB20 have heard about the petition and don't want to do another tour, but have said they would be willing to go back to Oz and do radio/television interviews and stuff after their current US tour is over.
I wonder how many albums MTYTYA has actually sold compared to the 3x platinum certification. Do you think MTYTYA has a chance of matching the 4x platinum status of "Mad Season" in Australia?

I don't know whats keeping them up so high. It's probably that they're just a well known band that people know will have an album worth buying and they know it has a few hits on it. 4 times platinum is not out of the questions since Xmas is coming up but I don't know when their last certification was.

Delta powers on December 09, 2003
ANOTHER day, another chart record for Delta Goodrem. With her new single, Predictable, entering the ARIA chart at No. 2 yesterday, she's notched up an incredible five top-three debut singles from one album.
She's also broken a record held by another Neighbours star – Jason Donovan.
The former teen heart-throb had the first four singles from his first album debut in the top 10.
Delta's Innocent Eyes has gone 12 times platinum (840,000), equalling Australian sales for mega-albums like Fleetwood Mac's Rumours, Michael Jackson's Thriller and Celine Dion's Falling into You.
The big question will be whether she can reach a million copies before Christmas.
Delta was pipped for the No. 1 spot by Australian Idol victor Guy Sebastian, who held the top position this week with his smash debut single, Angels Brought Me Here.
And the Fro Boy has created a bit of history of his own.
He's the first solo Idol/Popstars winner to hang on to No. 1 for two weeks – Scott "I'm Movin' On" Cain could only manage one week.
Popstars victor Bardot was at No. 1 for two weeks in 2000 with its single, Poison.
Sebastian's debut album, Just As I Am, was released yesterday, and if scenes from the weekend launch in Sydney are anything to go by, expect a riot when he appears at Highpoint tomorrow.
Kyles keeps dropping
WHILE the news just gets better for Delta, it's all going horribly wrong for our Kylie.
Her new album, Body Language, slipped this week from No. 5 to No. 9, while the single Slow dropped from No. 4 to No. 15.
It's even worse in Britain.
While Delta managed a top 20 debut for her fourth single, Not Me Not I, poor Kyles watched Slow drop from No. 17 to No. 26.
