I know there was a topic on this song, but I can’t find it. For me, “Too Lost In You” is one of the best songs to come out of 2003. I remember the first time I heard the track…it demanded my full attention. Lyrically, this is a very captivating song….perhaps Diane Warren’s best lyric yet. And while there is so much content, you find yourself hanging on every word…it holds itself together quite well…and this is before the vocals. I had never heard of the Sugarbabes up until now but man oh man, when they sing, they really bring it. I am a huge Atomic Kitten fan, but they have nothing on this group. This song demands a dark blend of vocal tones, and the Sugarbabes rise to the challenge and deliver. They sell this song like a great real estate agent, nailing every word, every note with precision.
There are two versions available…the first is the one found on the “Love Actually” soundtrack. It’s more faithful to what Diane had originally intended the song to sound like. It’s a smoky, mysterious ballad with some great dramatic pauses and instrumentations. Once the song hits the final chorus, there is an awesome vocal key change that will give you some serious chills. (Not found in the radio version) The video version is also the one receiving the most airplay. To me, this is what pop music is all about. This version has a stunning euro-pop sound that gives the song a global, epic feel.
All and all, this is Diane Warren’s best song since “There You’ll Be.” If it’s every released here in North American, I predict a huge smash!!!!! (you heard it here first)

Is it more dance or pop?

"Too Lost In You" is surely one of the best songs released in 2003. With regards to the previous question asked above, the song is pop. However, it does have a shot over at Hot AC.

I was excited about this song until you said her best song since There You'll Be. That song is one of the flattest, blandest pieces of boring crap.... No offense I will give it a try though. That group has been recommended to me on more than one occasion and I respect most of Diane Warren's work (MOST-not There You'll Be )

And this song is nothing like "There You'll Be," so don't worry.

Fabulous song, I agree, and I believe it's somewhere in my favorite songs of 2003.
And it's funny that you mention Atomic Kitten, cos when I compared Atomic's The Last Goodbye and this song, Atomic Kitten is slightly better. Atomic's Kitten forte has always lied in their ballads, while Sugababes has created a niche for itself in dance, and I don't think anything's going to change for now.
In all, still a great song. But vocally and musically, nothing to put Atomic Kitten to shame.

Ugh, Atomic Kitten don't even Compare to the Sugababes. The Sugababes are infinitely more talented & original. 'The Last Goodbye' is just boring.

Great song. Check out their latest third album, appropiately called "Three", good stuff! You mean, "lamely called "Three"". I just loved "Run For Cover" and I kept downloading single after single from them after that, and I was disappointed every time. Not gonna bother with this one. Why are the Atomic Kittens ALWAYS brought up whenever the Sugababes are mentioned?

I agree with Ben on this one... WHAT A SONG! I can't get enough of it. It took me a few listens for it to grab me (probably because I was so impressed with everything else on their album at the same time) but now it's one of my favourite songs by them.
The lyrics are really great and different from what I'd expect from Diane Warren. I can't say enougn about how incredible the lyrics are. The Sugababes vocals are amazing, I feel each and every word, and each of them has their own separate parts but also sound as if they were born to sing together as a group, it gives me chills!
This song is an edgy ballad more like "Run For Cover" than any previous Sugababes song.
Lastly, I don't know what drugs you'd be on to even begin to compare Sugababes to Atomic Kitten. Do you have ears? Do you have eyes? The only similarities are that they are both successful UK female pop trios, THAT'S ALL! Sugababes are obviously very talented with writing the majority of their own music from DAY ONE, having a totally unique sound and image. They're interesting and a bit left of the middle. Atomic Kitten are the blandest, most boring and talentless trio around. They can't sing for anything, a large amount of their 'hits' have been cover versions of already famous songs, they're 100% middle of the road bubblegum pop and if you've ever seen their videos you'll see a bunch of pathetic bratty looking girls trying to act sexy in front of the camera wearing not much clothing. They're not even close to being similar or in the same league.
BTW Ben... it's Sugababes not Sugarbabes!!

I downloaded the album. I thought "Buster," "Maya," "Million Different Ways" and "Situations Heavy" were decent.

I liked it at first, but then it sort of struck me as boring. I don't know. "Round, Round" was a top 10 hit on my chart, though.

This is a very accurate review of their latest album from dotmusic
Not to put too fine a point on it, in the space of two years and two albums, the Sugababes changed the face of pop. With 2000's sultry debut single 'Overload' they asserted that girl bands didn't have to be step perfect stage school dimwits. Then, after the departure of Siobhan Donaghy (the ginger one), they returned as sneering, man-eating teen strumpets with the genius bootleg 'Freak Like Me', scored their first Number One and set-up shop as the coolest thing to rule the charts in decades.
As with all good things, others were quick to imitate. Liberty X jumped on the bootleg bandwagon and it's not hard to see where Girls Aloud got their ideas from. But none have mustered quite as much sexual tension and malevolence as Mutya, Keisha and Heidi, let alone shown their ingenuity. Sugababes have set a hard act to follow, not least for themselves.
While by pop standards their third album is another brave challenge, by their own it's a safe banker. With the playing field already slanted to their liking, it's a tour round the Sugababes' bases to consolidate their strengths and bolster their reputation as a byword for sophistication. As such, it's both their most accomplished album to date and their least exceptional.
Their ability to conjure a chart-eating tune with the minimum of effort, remains spectacular. First single and Number One 'Hole In The Head' is a relatively dull dancefloor romp, made seductive as soon as they open their mouths. 'Whatever Makes You Happy' repeats the bootleg trick, this time borrowing the stadium sized synths of Sly Fox's '80s masterpiece 'Let's Go All The Way', while 'In The Middle' is a retro hip-shake in the 'Round Round' vein. Likewise, their downtempo moments are as moody as ever. 'Too Lost In You' and 'Caught In A Moment' both remind that they handle trip-hop melancholy with the same devastating confidence as their seething club stomps.
Elsewhere, there are detours to the quirkier side of their perspective. 'Twisted' lays a sly, candy coated melody over an eccentric off kilter bounce, while the backwards beats and funk rock slink of 'We Could Have It All' make for a ghostly shimmy - although they're nice touches rather than genuine adventure.
Their core values revised, refined and reasserted, 'Three' is a faultless reminder of everything that is good about the diminutive trio. And if unlikely to change the world, as their previous albums arguably did, it confirms there's still no one to touch them.

What's happened to the British girls in Australia, anyway? The Sugababes, Girls Aloud, Liberty X & Atomic Kitten don't seem to be doing well anymore.
Atomic Kitten in particular seemed like they were doing really well over there, but 'If You Come To Me' barely made the top 30. Same with 'Hole In teh Head' and i don't think i've even seen Liverty X's recent singles on the chart.
Did Girls Aloud even chart again after 'Sound Of The Underground' became a moderate hit?

I don't think Girls Aloud charted with "No Good Advice" (not top 50 at least).
Liberty X's "Jumpin'" was released but charted below top 50.
Atomic Kitten did alright with their last album but the new one hasn't been a success, nor has the single.
Sugababes have never had that much success here. None of their albums have done well. "Round Round" was probably their biggest hit. They've had most of their singles chart but mostly in the lower portion between #20-50. I think they are the only ones to watch.... I think if they keep trying they will eventually prove themselves worthy of album sales. I'm hoping "Too Lost In You" does well but haven't heard anything about it yet. "Love Actually" was just released here on 26th Dec and is doing huge things.

Well be warned, the Kittens have, predictably, covered 'Ladies Night' by Kool & the Gang. It's done well for them over here (outsold 'Too Lost In You' which is just SO wrong) and could do a 'Tide Is High' for them at your end too.
To be fair, it's not a BAD cover, it's just.... Atomic Kitten. Cheap and tacky. The video has a load of drag queens and stuff, so the Kittens fit right in ;)
It is quite ironic hearing the cokehead blonde one singing "Sophisticated mama". You just ask yourself... WHERE?

Is she a cokehead... does she have a bad reputation? She was the replacement one?
She looked like Mandy Moore in the Whole Again video but then she went to looking like Christina Aguilera and now she just looks like a total slut.
Ladies Night is getting some airplay here, it's out as a single in 2 weeks so we shall see. I hope it flops.
I still cannot understand HOW ON EARTH this group is popular. Granted a few of their songs have been guilty pleasures of mine but it's plain to see they are talentless and crappy. The madness must end. There are other bad pop acts out there but I can normally see some sort of reason for their success but not AK.

Yeah, plenty of people who've met teh girls have stated that Jenny has a serious coke habit.
Actually, I can totally see why Atomic Kitten do so well. They're absolutely like every girl around here (they're from Liverpool, which is my area, so they even look like the girls at my school). They dress like normal girls, they're not unrealistically good looking, they're not great vocalists and in their videos they basically act like normal girls act. Cos of that, people like them and they can easily aspire to them. Their songs are totally unchallenging karaoke pop. The Sugababes certainly make far stronger music, are better vocalists and have a much stronger image, but because of that they divide opinion, a lot of teenage girls and young women dislike them cos they can't relate to them, they think they come accross as bitchy and stuck up.
Atomic Kitten are the ultimate everygirls. One of them has a kid, they all have romantic ups and downs. They even seem to be genuinely really close friends (Jenny was an old friend of the girls before they enlisted her). It's like the Spice Girls without the individuality and with weaker tunes, which, bizarrely, is probably a strength for them.
It is really scary to think that if they manage 3 more top ten hits in the UK, they'll have the record for a female group though.... The Supremes have the current record at 14.

I can totally see the reason why Atomic Kitten are so popular in Europe. Like Hilary Duff, "AK" don't particularly have the best songs nor the best vocals, though maybe one of 'em does. The fact is most of "AK"'s songs are extremely catchy and poppy; an ingredient for a decent size hit. Wouldn't really consider myself a fan of them, but "Love Doesn't Have To Hurt," "The Last Goodbye," "Be With You," and "If You Come To Me" are really nice on the ears.
I can't stand "Ladies Night" by the way, its not even listenable. Same goes with Sugababes' "Freak Like Me," don't understand why artist cover a mediocre song to begin with.
