Aussie Chart: www.aria.com.auand, u probally know, the US chart: www.mmr247.com/mmrweb/AllAccess/just in case your unfamiliar with the international music scene...and wonder why songs that have been out here for a while are just debuting there, its because usually American artists' singles get released later in Europe, Asia, and Australia...and vice versa...ex] "My Immortal" and "Milkshake" just debuted this week in Australia....also, Kylie's "Slow" was released in November internationally...and just this month in the US. Also, Australian & UK's singles chart is based on sales, NOT airplay...thats why they debut so high.

"The US chart" should refer to the Billboard Hot 100, not Mediabase.

"The US chart" should refer to the Billboard Hot 100, not Mediabase. that could be argued...

Show me a website that uses an R&R chart as a United States Number 1. www.onmc.iinet.net.au/top/2002.htm uses the Billboard Hot 100. It's unfair to use one R&R format chart as the Number 1 song in the country. No matter what format you picked you would have more popular artists not making that chart than not making the Billboard Hot 100. It was posted that other countries don't have format charts like the United States and Canada, so would a European simply looking for the United States Number 1 make sense of 11 different Mediabase charts (that's what you posted) with a combined nine different Number 1s, and more than that if you expand to R&R charts not on Mediabase. If it was made I would be open to liking another multi-format chart better than the Billboard Hot 100 but there isn't one.

EvanJ makes a good point. Along with sales and radio airplay though, they should now include videoplay and viewer impressions. Video did kill the radio star. Eventually they'll have to include US based internet radio play/audience data as well. Welcome to the information age.

Billboard is just more well-known. Before I really got into music, i didnt even know about Mediabase...

I think you miss EvanJ's point though. Not everybody listens to CHR/Pop. Certainly the arbitrons prove this. To say that one format represents a country is biased.
