If only they were real ;)
I didn't hear much of AT40 with Casey because I never really paid much attention to the charts except for in the past year, but this show is horrid.

Yay, he actually called the song "F It."
I actually don't mind the show. I like the lack of commercials (relative to the old show). While I don't really like the recurrent coming back, but at least it should satisfy those who hate the rule. I like the pace of it. But of course, I still liked the old AT40 more.

What is the point of the correspondents? All they do is plug artists on tour, and for a more-than-nationwide show, nobody in Vancouver wants to know what's going on in Miami. "Ooh, Hilary Duff is playing South Beach! I gotta spend the 3 grand to get there!" It's just stupid. NOBODY CARES!
If they wanted to eat up time, they're doing a damn good job at it.

Forget this crap. I just switched to the Weekly Top 40 where Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey are cohosting.

To the people listening, does anything on the show have ANY relevance at all (sweepers or anything?) to the old AT40?

18.Liz Phair-Why Can't I?
Edf, if you're referring to songs and movement, they are continuing it as if last week happened. For example, Clay Aiken dropped 2.

I missed the first part of the show. For the recurrents, did he say something like, "Re-entering the survey at number..." or did he just mention the song without any mention of last week's status?

No mention of the recurrents reentering, but for the ones that were already there it was drop, raise, or stay the same.

Geez! Make a few mistakes?
Lil Jon actually leaped 18-12. Ryan said 16-12. Then he played No Doubt at #11. Before the song he said they dropped from 6 to 11 (which is correct). After the song he said they climbed from 16 to 11 (which isn't).
It seems the writers have now made proofreading and optional part of the production process...

To the people listening, does anything on the show have ANY relevance at all (sweepers or anything?) to the old AT40? I am so upset about this garbage! It reminds me of back in 1985 when Coca Cola came out with "new Coke" which caused such an uproar that they quickly went back to the old formula and called it "Classic Coke" . Can we hope and pray for "Classic AT 40" Maybe if enough people call their stations and contact Premiere it might do some good, and at least get a little more of the old format back. I sent AT40 this e-mail today: Heard some of it last night on the Internet, and while I like you, Ryan, this new AT40 is garbage. What's with all the recurrents returning to the countdown, and without even any explanation. And what exactly is the chart based on? And why play an extra which is repeated in the top 5? I have been listening to American Top 40 since the mid 70's, but I don't know if I can stomach this version. I expect that you will hear a lot of similar negative comments. What were the powers that be "thinking"? Or should I say drinking? No long distance dedications, no continuity. Who is this supposed to appeal to. The chart is less fresh, with all the older songs. What an insult to Casey Kasem! What a MESS!

I just checked the website to see if KBKS was gonna be playing it (they're not, I guess that's a good thing :(), but I noticed something else. It said that Z100 was playing it on Sundays from 8 AM-12 PM. Are they replacing Rick Dees show?
From the descriptions people are giving, I don't think I want to listen to this.

In the first hour Ryan promoted the at40 web site so we can register and vote,...even insult him. There's no need to do that So here is mine:"God damn you,Ryan" And after the #1 song he thanked Casey for letting him take over AT40.I take that as an insult to Casey. Do you guys think AT40 is degraded now?

charlypp, it is pure folly to be accusing Ryan of making all of these changes to the show.
Ryan is not the one responsible for all of the changes to the American Top 40 format. Rather, it was all upper-management decisions to change the format of the show. Ryan didn't say "Ok, I want to do this and this and this and remove this and this and change the chart, etc."
It is not an insult to Casey by saying that he thanks Casey for letting him take over. There was a quote made by Casey himself saying that Ryan is the kind of person who appeals to younger audiences now. I wish that I could find it again. It used to be on Ryan's personal website after he guest-hosted AT40.

I got to listen to the first hour of the show and to be honest, it wasn't that bad. The new AT40 has stuff in it that I've always wanted the old AT40 to have. But it's just that it's not Casey hosting it and that's why I'm not feeling this show. I always wanted Casey to play clips of the Top 3 (or 5) songs of last week instead of mentioning them, to have Extras that weren't past hits but projected future hits (not in this case where it's already a hit) and stuff like that. Unfortunately, as mentioned before, it seems like this show isn't original and doesn't have the same charm as Casey's did.
As for Ludacris' song being played twice. I suppose it's better than throwing 'Stand Up' to #1 just because he's in the studio. Although with all that extra airplay, he might make it to #1.

Extra: Ludacris featuring Shawwna - Stand Up ... Extra: Mary J. Blige featuring Eve - Not Today
Rather than just "extras", these two were, actually, specific to the show's new features. "Stand Up" was part of the AT40 Focus feature -- i.e. a spotlight artist of the week. Ludacris was this week's focus artist (Though, why they couldn't have played a different song, like "Roll Out" or "What's Your Fantasy?", is anyone's guess. Playing the same song twice during the show is just dumb.). "Not Today" is part of the Out of the Box (I guess that's what it's called) feature. He mentioned a few singles being released in the coming week and played this one because it was "chartbound". You could say that this feature is the equivalent of Shadoe's "Sneak Peek" or Rick Dees' "Sure Shot".

I know I mentioned this in the other topic, but Evanescence's third single falling off as a result of the FIRST single re-entering has got to be one of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen.

Did you do that on purpose. The person Ludacris features is "Shawnna," not "Shawwna." In the two appearances of "Stand Up" you spelled it two different ways.

I tried listening last night but only got to hear a few minutes, mostly the time that Ludacris was being interviewed, so I can't give a full verdict yet. One good thing about the interview though, it sounded very unscripted. They let Ludacris say things on the air that you'd never hear on the Dees Hotline, like saying that the story about Snoop Dogg giving up smoking was never true, and flat-out calling Bill O'Reilly a racist. This definitely helped give the show a more "live" feel which could keep the show interesting. But I still fear that for the most part, the show sounds just like your generic CHR/Pop radio show that could've been produced anytime in the last 15 years, and not the countdown of the future.
And while he wasn't #1, moving Ludacris 10-5 seems very suspicious to me. Especially when they gave him a whole bunch of free spins as an extra. When AT40 broke from following R&R in 2000-2001, I had very little doubt that the countdown was still coming from an accurate source, since they didn't change anything else about the show. But when you have interviews and also use an unpublished source, it can definitely raise some suspicion. AT40 does list their affiliates on the website, so we might be able to add up their playlists and see how close they come to the countdown.
Leaving recurrents on also puzzles me a little bit. If they have any reasoning for this it's probably that the average listener doesn't know the difference between a current and a recurrent when they hear it on the radio. But I think the average listener would still know that "In Da Club" and "Bring Me To Life" came out a year ago and wouldn't expect to hear them on a countdown of today's top hits.
The website does look good though, with most of the things we've wanted from an AT40 site. It looks like they've set it up to include artists' chart histories, though there's no indications that those histories will go back before this week.
