Footy from Y100 announced this morning he is retiring from Y100 after 32 years on the air. His final airdate will be this Friday. :(
I just hope he chose to retire on his own and isn't being forced out cause he isn't hip hop enough. Kenny Walker was let go in January so I guess I'm not surprised to see him leaving now.
Gonna miss him in the morning. :(

That's a long time at a radio station, let alone a CHR. I remember when Kiss Boston let go of their afternoon guy a couple of years ago because he was over 60, so I hope this isn't one of those situations either. If the person is capable of doing his or her job and can relate to his audience, then don't fix.

Looks like his replacement will be Elvis Duran, syndicated from Z100/NYC. From All Access:
CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40 WHYI (Y100)/MIAMI is replacing FOOTY -- whose last show is today, capping 32 years with the station -- with ELVIS DURAN AND THE Z100 MORNING ZOO from sister Top 40 WHTZ (Z100)/NEW YORK. The show, still mostly originating at Z100, will locally be known as ELVIS DURAN AND THE Y100 MORNING ZOO, and features CAROLINA BERMUDEZ who was a regular part of FOOTY's show in 2004 before heading to Z100.
RVPP DAVE DENVER said, "Although this is the last day for Footy in the Morning, the tradition of the morning show will keep going with ELVIS DURAN AND THE Y100 MORNING ZOO. ELVIS is a legend in NEW YORK CITY and we are excited he has decided to join us and bring CAROLINA back with him!"
DURAN noted, "NEW YORK and MIAMI are the two most international cities in America. We are launching the show because of the many similarities in cultures. We are both gargantuan hubs for the entertainment industry and pop culture, so it was a natural fit."
BERMUDEZ added, "MIAMI get ready! I am back and bringing with me the best man in radio -- ELVIS DURAN."
To give the show a more local flavor, ELVIS, CAROLINA, JOHN BELL, DANIELLE MONARO, GREG T THE FRATBOY, and the others will often be broadcasting from Y100's studios. A start date is pending.
I don't really think this is going to work. Elvis has done great in the past because he's a local show. Syndicated morning shows rarely work on CHR. Just look at what happened when Rick Dees tried it.

I listened to Kenny & Footy quite a bit when I was down in Miami for work travels. He will be missed.

Bullshit. I grew up listening to Footy and i'm sad that he's retiring (I remember Footy and the Chix at 6, lol), but I understand how a 60-something man might not be the most appealing figure to grab young listeners. My issue is the fact that they're going to be syndicating a morning show!! Miami is a major market and deserves its own radio show with its own unique personalities. I heard the promo calling it the "Y Morning Zoo". it's not going to be the same...yes, Miami and New York are similar audiences, but they're not the same. NYC has Puerto Ricans, Miami has Cubans for one thing It's like they want to take the unique flavor left in Y100 and discard it.
