NYC's 92.3 Free-FM, formerly K-Rock, has made a bunch of changes.
Most know by now that David Lee Roth was fired as the morning talk guy, replaced by Opie & Anthony from 6-9AM (they do an uncensored show for XM from 9-11AM).
JV & Elvis are now on from 9AM-1PM.
Free-FM has also dropped the Booker and Jake shows, its back to the "great rock" format just before K-Rock flipped starting at 7PM weeknights and all music on weekends.
I'm happy about this -- now I don't have to strain to tune in to Jersey Shore's G-Rock to get my share of newer rock.
And NYC still needs an alternative station, as well as a country station.

Agreed and agreed. Only thing about this great rock format is that it doesn't expose enough of the newer stuff...and yes, people are going to say...well, OMG the new stuff sucks! But I don't think that people are giving the new stuff a chance...and let's be honest, since there really aren't too many artists that have stood out post-grunge era, it's going to be very difficult. I don't want to have to go online just to hear good new alternative/active music...which is why I wasn't too happy about the first change.

I wish they'd just go back to alternative, at least during the non-talk portions of the day. If I'm not mistaken, the ratings didn't go up after the switch to "great rock period" format. If I want classic rock, I'll listen to Q104.

The Free FM ratings sucked in all northeast markets, and this was bound to happen. CBS needs to realize this is a bad idea and instead of having "formula" stations, they need to target each market differently. New York City needs an alternative station (which 92.3 should be) and a country station (perfect for WNEW)

I'd rather WNEW keep their format and Free FM or Jack change to Country.
