I am putting together my list of the songs which peaked since January 2000 that have spent the most amount of weeks on the Recurrent chart. (Since I started following Billboard's Mainstream Top 40 chart before I discovered R&R, that's the one I keep statistics on. The charts are quite similar.) Their recurrent chart is a 20 position chart, and songs become recurrents after they have been on the Mainstream Top 40 chart for 26 weeks and have dropped below the Top 20. Take a moment now and guess which song you think will be #1 on the list. This coming weekend or early next week, I will post #100-#11, and from there I will give you a couple of days to see if you can figure out the 10 remaining songs.
OK - start guessing!

My guess at the top recurrent: probably "Hanging By A Moment".

I would pick "Hanging By A Moment", but since it has already been taken, I'll pick "Everything You Want" by Vertical Horizon.

Do you mean the songs that spent the most time as a recurrent before they were moved to gold? Or just which songs have had the most airplay since leaving the chart? Let's see...''Kryptonite'' would probably be up there pretty high. I would think the same for ''Drops Of Jupiter (Tell Me)''.
I'd also mention ''How You Remind Me'' and ''In The End'', but those songs seem too recent.

Songs stay on the Top 20 recurrent chart until they fall off naturally, regardless of how old the song is. And of course, songs can (and do) re-enter after falling off.

Another song it might be is "Higher" by Creed.

Here's the first 90% of the list, as promised. Now take a couple of days and see if you can figure out the other 10 songs on the list (positions 10-1). Actually, you've already figured out 6 of them (see underneath the list), so you only have 4 to go.

Ties are broken in the following order: (1) Peak position on the Recurrent Top 20 Chart (2) Wks at peak position (3) Next highest peak position on the chart (4) Wks at that position, and so on
(For example, a song which spent 3 weeks at a peak of #5 on the recurrent chart and 2 weeks at #6 would just beat out a song which spent 3 weeks at #5 and 1 week at #6)
The following songs are still on the Top 20: 100 - Unwell 98 - Bring Me To Life 86 - Rock Your Body 82 - Ignition 63 - In Da Club 44 - When I'm Gone 16 - Lose Yourself
You have already figured out these songs which are in the Top 10: Hanging By A Moment Everything You Want Kryptonite In The End How You Remind Me Higher

I don't expect it to be in the Top 10, but I would have expected "Come On Over Baby (All I Want Is You)" to make the Top 100. The same goes for "Oops!...I Did It Again." Both of those went recurrent. "Be With You" by Enrique Iglesias is another Top 5 that went recurrent that wasn't listed. Kid Rock: "Only God Knows Why" was a Number 7 that went recurrent and wasn't listed. Looking at the Mediabase currents, I would expect Mary J. Blige: "Family Affair" to make it. Considering it's only a little behind the Number 13, "Complicated," despite being much older, I'll guess "Family Affair."

I'd say "Smooth" is probably top 10 too. Maybe "Music" too.

Music is in the Top 10. So if Family Affair.
That means we only have 2 left.
Come On Over spent 7 weeks on the Recurrent Top 20. Be With You - 12 weeks Only God Knows Why - 9 weeks Oops I Did It Again didn't make the recurrent chart (at least the Mainstream Top 40 Recurrent chart)
Smooth - 46 weeks, but I don't include it on my list since it peaked in 1999 (the list only includes songs that peaked in the 2000's.)

"Hot in Herre" must be in the top 10, because it's still getting around 700 spins now.

I'm just thinking here...
Savage Garden - "I Knew I Loved You"?
"Lady Marmalade" was one of the longest running #1's, but I don't think it did that well as a recurrent..still, I'd expect it to be in the Top 100. It could be in the Top 10...
"Hot In Herre"?

Hot In Herre is in the Top 10 - so there's only 1 left to go!
I Knew I Loved You spent 23 weeks on the Top 20 Recurrent chart, but peaked the last week of 1999 on the Mainstream Top 40 chart, so ir didn't quite make it. Lady Marmalade spent only 6 weeks on the recurrent chart.

The only other song I can come up with is "Show Me The Meaning Of Being Lonely" by the Backstreet Boys.

Congratulations to Keith3000 and k for both coming up with the correct answer (#1), and to BigD for coming up with the last of the 10 in the Top 10.
Here is the Top 10:
10 - Music - Madonna - 46 9 - Kryptonite - 3 Doors Down - 47 8 - Hot In Herre - Nelly - 49 7 - Heaven - DJ Sammy featuring Yanou & Do - 51 6 - Hanging By A Moment - Lifehouse - 51 5 - Everything You Want - Vertical Horizon - 52 4 - Family Affair - Mary J. Blige - 53 3 - Higher - Creed - 54 2 - How You Remind Me - Nickelback - 72 1 - In The End - Linkin Park - 74
"Hot In Herre" is still in the Top 20, though it has fallen off and re-entered a few times, so its days are definitely numbered.
Hope you all found this interesting.

Not surprised by the top 10 songs except I wasn't expecting "Heaven" to be so high up!

I guessed "Family Affair" but I'm surprised it's ahead of two out of the three eligible year-end R&R Number 1s (2000, 2001, and 2002). I don't think a song could have dropped off long enough ago to have 46 recurrent weeks without being too old to be the 2003 year-end Number 1.

I re-read the explanation behind this recurrent chart and it's not clear whether you consider songs that were moved to Gold but still had more spins than the #20 recurrent as eligible for your recurrent chart. Perhaps that explains why Everything You Want is so low, whereas Family Affair spent so many weeks on the recurrent chart because it's still listed as a Mediabase recurrent.
Did that make sense?

They do not publish a gold chart. If a song has more spins than the #20 song, it would be listed on the recurrent chart, no matter how old it is.
