Here, I combined the Top 40 Currents Playlists of WXXX Burlington, WPRO Providence, and WXKS Boston. I know there is a station in Portsmouth and I could have also added Z100 because it's near Connecticut, but its not officially in New England. I know this is not very accurate, but these are the 3 stations I listen to most often, so I felt like making a chart. (WXXX when I go up north to ski for the weekends.) This could be interesting for anyone who also lives in the New England area. TEXT Anyway, here goes.......... TW Spins Artist Title 01 233 Nickelback - Someday 02 220 Outkast - Hey Ya! 03 184 Outkast - The Way You Move 04 174 No Doubt - It's My Life 05 173 Evanescence - My Immortal 06 165 Jessica Simpson - With You 07 118 Sheryl Crow - The First Cut Is The Deepest 08 118 Baby Bash - Suga Suag 09 116 Christina Aguilera - The Voice Within 10 110 Kelis - Milkshake 11 108 3 Doors Down - Here Without You 12 105 Britney Spears - Toxic 13 104 Ludacris f/ Shawnna - Stand Up 14 103 Fuel - Falls On Me 15 98 Linkin Park - Numb 16 96 Dido - White Flag 17 94 Simple Plan - Perfect 18 92 Eamon - F**k It (I Don't Want You Back) 19 89 Beyonce f/ Sean Paul - Baby Boy 20 69 Good Charlotte - Hold On 21 67 Trapt - Headstrong 22 61 Switchfoot - Meant to Live 23 60 Alicia Keys - You Don't Know My Name 24 58 Kiley Dean - Who Will I Run To? 25 56 Maroon 5 - This Love 26 54 Kelly Clarkson - Trouble With Love Is 27 54 Beyonce - Me, Myself, & I 28 54 Lasgo - Alone 29 41 J.C. Here, I combined the Top 40 Currents Playlists of WXXX Burlington, WPRO Providence, and WXKS Boston. I know there is a station in Portsmouth Yep, WERZ. Grew up in the Portsmouth area, so ERZ's a personal fave of mine. True, New York is not New England, but you might include Kiss 95.7 (WKSS) out of Hartford, the only "big" New England market that isn't accounted for here. If you do this list again, you may even want to add in Portland, ME's Q97.9 (WJPQ, I think). Just to have a sampling from all six states. ;) Interesting chart. Not too surprised to see Nickelback on top. Of the three stations on your "panel", I'll bet Kiss 108 was the biggest contributer to their play.

Yeah, please add the Connecticut stations. I know Connecticut isn't the first state that jumps to mind when we say "New England" but it is part of it nonetheless.

The 5 "Major Market" Pop Stations in New England are: WXKS, Boston WPRO, Providence WKSS, Hartford WERZ, Portsmouth WXXX, Burlington
Although WXKS, Boston, is technically the only major market [Providence being in the 30s i believe], those are the 5 dominant Pop stations. Thats the real "New England Top 30."

Well, there's no reason to count only 5 of the 6 monitored stations and leave out 1.
The bottom few positions may be a little off.
No major changes, except Evanescence slips to No. 5.
So including WKCI,
POS PLAYS ARTIST TITLE 01 01 430 NICKELBACK Someday 02 05 336 OUTKAST The Way You Move 03 03 335 NO DOUBT It's My Life 04 04 332 OUTKAST Hey Ya! 05 02 330 EVANESENCE My Immortal 06 06 288 JESSICA SIMPSON With You 07 07 250 SHERYL CROW The First Cut Is The Deepest 08 10 237 3 DOORS DOWN Here Without You 09 08 237 DIDO White Flag 10 09 229 LUDACRIS Stand Up 11 11 205 BRITNEY SPEARS Toxic 12 16 200 BABY BASH Suga Suga 13 14 195 LINKIN PARK Numb 14 13 193 CHRISTINA AGUILERA The Voice Within 15 12 188 BEYONCE Me Myself And I 16 17 183 FUEL Falls On Me 17 19 175 KELIS Milkshake 18 15 174 SIMPLE PLAN Perfect 19 21 173 EAMON F**k It (I Don't Want You Back) 20 18 171 KELLY CLARKSON The Trouble With Love Is 21 20 151 GOOD CHARLOTTE Hold On 22 22 129 MAROON 5 This Love 23 25 108 ALICIA KEYS You Don't Know My Name 24 23 103 TRAPT Headstrong 25 26 97 HILARY DUFF Come Clean 26 27 95 SWITCHFOOT Meant To Live 27 29 88 KYLIE MINOUGE Slow 28 24 83 MVP (Most Valuable Playas) Rock Ya Body Mic Check 1,2 29 28 76 JC CHASEZ Some Girls (Dance With Women) 30 30 66 KILEY DEAN Who Will I Run To?

So since we're having so much fun with this thread (and because I felt like playing with my spreadsheet), a little bit about what I did to come up with a comprehensive New England chart. From the Ratings section of the R&R site, the top markets in New England (and the pop stations affiliated with them) are:
1 - Boston, MA (WXKS) 2 - Providence, RI (WPRO) 3 - Hartford, CT (WKSS) 4 - Springfield, MA 5 - New Haven, CT (WKCI) 6 - Worcester, MA 7 - Portsmouth, NH (WERZ) 8 - Bridgeport, CT 9 - Burlington, VT (WXXX) 10 - Stamford-Norwalk, CT 11 - Portland, ME (WJBQ; WRED) 12 - New Bedford, MA (WFHN) 13 - New London, CT (WQGN; WILI) 14 - Cape Cod, MA (WRZE) 15 - Manchester, NH (WJYY) 16 - Danbury, CT 17 - Bangor, ME (WWBX; WBZN) 18 - Augusta-Waterville, ME (WMME) 19 - Lewiston-Auburn, ME
There are six Mediabase monitored stations (WXKS; WPRO; WKSS; WKCI; WERZ; WXXX). The only state left out of the mix is Maine. So I also added in the five indicator stations that report to R&R (WJBQ; WFHN; WQGN; WRZE; WJYY). Granted, the list is a bit "bottom-heavy" (i.e. mostly MA and CT stations). But what can you do? That's where most of NE's population is. With the 11 selected stations, all six states are covered. I used the playlists from R&R's site. The chart becomes (note, ties were broken the R&R way -- greatest gainer from the previous week wins):
Rank Spins Artist Title (Label) 01 635 OutKast The Way You Move (Arista) 02 635 Nickelback Someday (Roadrunner/IDJMG) 03 630 OutKast Hey Ya! (Arista) 04 534 No Doubt It's My Life (Interscope) 05 439 Evanescence My Immortal (Wind-up) 06 435 Jessica Simpson With You (Columbia) 07 404 Baby Bash Suga Suga (Universal) 08 401 Linkin Park Numb (Warner Bros.) 09 366 Christina Aguilera The Voice Within (RCA) 10 359 Dido White Flag (Arista) 11 358 Ludacris f/Shawnna Stand Up (Def Jam South/IDJMG) 12 348 Britney Spears Toxic (Jive) 13 340 3 Doors Down Here Without You (Republic/Universal) 14 324 Sheryl Crow The First Cut Is The Deepest (A&M/Interscope) 15 324 Kelis Milkshake (Star Trak/Arista) 16 304 Simple Plan Perfect (Lava) 17 301 Eamon F**k It (I Don't Want You Back) (Jive) 18 268 Alicia Keys You Don't Know My Name (J) 19 229 Beyonce' f/Sean Paul Baby Boy (Columbia) 20 212 Good Charlotte Hold On (Epic) 21 200 Kelly Clarkson The Trouble With Love Is (RCA) 22 199 Fuel Falls On Me (Epic) 23 178 Liz Phair Why Can't I? New Haven's not a major market. I just did the 5 major New England markets. New Haven not major while Burlington is? More people live in certain suburbs of New Haven than in the entire city of Burlington. Its also home of the school that is giving us the three most likely winners of the next Presidential election (Bush, dean, Kerry)

So to conclude, New England isn't very fond of Kelis, but Sheryl Crow and Nickelback get the thumbs up.

I just read this whole topic....I never realized that my original chart could be changed so much! When this topic is made for the 1/31/04 charts, I will still post the WXXX, WPRO,& WXKS one because those are the 3 stations I listen to. You can post the other ones too, if you want.

right. but im talking about if you just take New England...the majore markets imo in N.E. are Boston, Providence, Hartford, Portsmouth, & Burlington But as Jimmy said, New Haven is a bigger market (#108) than Burlington (#139) and even Portsmouth (#116). In fact, it's at least twice as big as either one and bigger than both combined. Click on the Station Playlist links above to check the audience figures if you don't believe it. Or look up the Census Bureau figures.
