New single. I unfortunately did not get to see them last year despite all the SoCal venues they played at. Oh, well, hopefully they plan another tour to promote the new singles and stuff. www.aterciopelados.com/EDIT: Kingluis got his wish.

It says on their website that the video for this song is coming soon. It should be good as its one of my favorites from the new album. The trumpets are so much fun. I unfortunately did not get to see them last year despite all the SoCal venues they played at. Oh, well, hopefully they plan another tour to promote the new singles and stuff. www.aterciopelados.com/Mmm...I'm not sure how I feel about this as the next single. I would have preferred "cancion protesta" better. Oh, and you suck! How could you have missed them. They played like 10 California cities and totally ignored Texas. That's so NOT cool! >:(

I would have picked "Oye Mujer" or "Fan #1". But they aren't really a singles band so it doesn't matter. I'm sure they'll end up winning a grammy for the album.

But they aren't really a singles band so it doesn't matter. Word. I think the only time I ever heard one of their songs on US radio is circa 2000 when they released "el album" as the first single of GOZO PODEROZO. And even then it was like twice. As far as winning the grammy, I'm not sure yet. First of all would they be entered in rock or alternative category? For the Latin Grammy's they would probably put the song "complemento" in rock and the entire album in alternative. I cannot think if there are any other significant releases who could give them some competition. Zoe was totally ignored last year even though MEMO REX COMMANDER Y EL CORAZON ATOMICO DE LA VIA LACTEA was one of the best rock albums of the year. So it isn't likely that they would embrace it now. Panda maybe?

I think Mana is going to end up stealing a grammy from them if they are in the same category. Or Juanes too. >:(
Panda? hahaha. Emo/punk music gets no respect in from the academy so that will never happen.

Or Juanes too. >:( quote] I had forgotten that Mana had released their craptastic album in during the period for eligibility. I guess that pretty much ruins Aterciopelados' chances of winning anything. The academy members are suckers for Mana. I mean REVOLUCION DE AMOR won best rock album a few years ago...what the hell is wrong with that picture?
I don't think Juanes will release his album in time...

Yeah, the video is good and I'm glad they decided to go with this instead of "Don Dinero". Andrea looks very manly in that outfit. Actually, I'm surprised how masculine this band is despite having a female singer.
Thank god Andrea decided to do a solo album for her "motherhood" songs and not making into an official Aterciopelados album. I guess that was her time to be a woman so I forgive her for producing such safe and fluffy music.

A couple of good tracks, though.
Yeah, Andrea has always had that androgynous a la Annie Lennux from the Eurythmics sort of look going on. I didn't become a fan of them until around 2000 with the release of "el album" from GOZO PODEROZO. Everytime I watched the video I could not figure out if she was a man or a woman. I can't wait to see them live. It's gonna be off da' hizzy!

I've been listening to OYE non-stop to get me pepped up for their upcoming Sept. 17th concert in Dallas. The songs have certainly grown on me a lot more. I like "Don Dinero" a lot more than when I first bought the album. It sounds much more cohesive now.
I can't wait to see them in person!

I barely noticed the little pun in "Don Dinero" when she says "te comrpo un autontune" and her voice is fixed to sound like that. Genius!

They have always filled their albums with quirky, interesting lyrics. In "don dinero" I love the line when she says, "si estoy muy gorda programo una cirugia". The more I listen to the album, the more I think "insoportable" is my favorite. One of their best rock ballads in a while. I love this band! :)

Well, I finally saw Aterciopelados in concert on Monday night. And it was totally free! See, I won tickets via Univision online so that was kinda of cool. I was rather disappointed that there was not much of a crowd. They were playing at the House of Blues which holds approximately 2,500 people, but there must have been 300 at the most. I know. Not good. The crowd was mainly people from South America (Colombians of course and Venezuelans) and were very laid back. It was my group (of 4 Mexicans) making the most noise. Andrea, Hector, & Co. played great. Andrea had the most interaction with the crowd, while Hector stayed in the background. They both seemed like genuinely nice people who were happy to be playing in Dallas despite the small turnout. One of the venue's staff members told me they had literally just arrived from Bogota and were eating at the House of Blues an hour prior to their 10:00 p.m. show. So I'm sure they were pretty tired. Which may explain why they only played for about 1 hour and 30 minutes. They mostly fitted in all of my faves including "maligno", "el album", "luz azul", "bolero falaz", "baracunatana", and "florecita rockera" as well as plenty of songs from the new album like "cancion protesta", "don dinero", and "complemento". I'm still sad they did not play one of my all-time faves by them, "la estaca". They also played one song form each of their respective solo albums: "A-eme-o" from Andrea's and one song from Hector's that I cannot remember. All in all, it was a good show. Anybody who has a chance should definitely check them out! It's well worth it!

I saw the in concert on Saturday in Austin, TX, at the Austin City Limits music festival. They offered a fun show. I liked it! I was so happy Andrea sang A-Eme-O! She had had her own concert as solo artist early in the day and didn't get to see her so I was happy when she sang that one at the Aterciopelados show. About the just coming from Colombia thing, I'm not sure Louie. I doubt they'll fly out of TX Sunday to fly back Monday to TX again. I'd say they were in TX the whole weekend, but I might be mistaken.....

I'd say they were in TX the whole weekend, but I might be mistaken..... Yeah, you're probably right. I wasn't aware they had been in Austin two days before. I'm just going by what the venue staff member told me. So how was their Austin show? Was it as short as the one in Dallas? They only played here for about 1 hour and 30 minutes. How many people showed up? Details, details, man!

Wow, I'm mad jealous at both of you. Congrats on finally seeing them Luis. Yeah, it was really cool. One by one, I have been able to catch all of my favorite artists in concert. Now, if I could only see Mikel Erentxun, Coti Sorokin, The Cure, Morrissey, Pete Yorn, The Hives, and Los Amigos Invisibles! Ok, the list is not as short as I thought.Anyway, you should catch them if they're back in Southern Cali anytime soon, Tortuga!

2007 Latin Grammy winners for best alternative album. Congrats! They beat two of my other faves, Kinky and Zoe in the process, but I'm still happy for Andrea & Hector. I really like Andrea's speech. She said something along the lines that children were our future because they will be our future politicians, musicians, and even bakers. So random! ;)

Blah, I missed seeing them win. That sounded like a nice little speech though. You didn't miss much. The show sucked big butt.
But yeah, it was nice seeing them win. They have such a weird, quirky personality. I think that's just Colombians in general...LOL.
