Now this is a good one! Too many good songs from R.E.M
However, this is how I'd arrange mine:
#1: New Test Leper (from "New Adventures in Hi-Fi" #2: What's The Frequency, Kenneth? (from "Monster") #3: E-Bow The Letter: (from "New Adventures in Hi-Fi") #4: Nightswimming (from "Automatic For The People") #5: Electrolite (from "New Adventues in Hi-Fi") #6: World Leader Pretend (from "Green") #7: Bad Day (from "In Time: Best Of R.E.M 1988-2003") #8: Bang and Blame: (from "Monster") #9: Shiny Happy People: (from "Out Of Time") #10: The Great Beyond (from "Man on the Moon Soundtrack")
*******Five Honorable Mentions*******
Everybody Hurts (from "Automatic For The People") The video is absolutely brilliant, as is the video for "Losing My Religion".
Radio Song (from "Out Of Time") The perfect anthem especially today, when Clear Channel and other great conglomerates keep buying off the table. Radio certainly sucks more than ever!
I Remember California (from "Green") Another song that relates ever so much to today, with California's pollution, etc. continuing to worsen and the original California well long forgotten.
It's The End Of The World (And I Feel Fine) Yep, still as authentic as it ever was.
At My Most Beautiful (from "Up") Absolutely beautiful piano-infused ballad with a whimsical charm to it.
*****My Pick For Most Overrated Song*****
Orange Crush (from "Green") This most likely became popular because of its sound, or perhaps because the carbonated soda title caught manys' attention. But I still fail to see any depth in this.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

1. Drive 2. Orange Crush 3. Fall On Me 4. Radio Free Europe 5. Texarkana 6. Bittersweet Me 7. Nightswimming 8. The One I Love 9. What's The Frequency, Kenneth? 10. Can't Get There From Here
No Noah, "Losing My Religion" and "Everybody Hurts" are 10,000 times more overrated than OC.

1) Drive 2) The One I Love 3) Losing My Religion 4) Everybody Hurts 5) Orange Crush 6) Man On The Moon 7) It's The End Of The World As We Know It 8) What's The Frequency Kenneth? 9) Finest Worksong 10) Imitation Of Life
11) Fall On Me 12) All The Way To Reno 13) Radio Song 14) Stand 15) Bad Day 16) Shiny Happy People 17) The Great Beyond
I've never heard or I don't remember these songs: Bang And Blame Bittersweet Me Strange Currencies Radio Free Europe E-Bow The Letter and a bunch of other songs
I think "Losing My Religion" and "Everybody Hurts" can only be considered overrated because they're arguably their two biggest hits. If anything, I'd say "It's The End Of The World As We Know It" would be their most overrated because whenever most people sing it, they always go:
Na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na It's the end of the world as we know it It's the end of the world as we know it
On and on like that. I may also say "Stand" and "Shiny Happy People" are overrated, but you can't blame either of them for being overly bright and happy.

Well, not just that, but while the mandolin is impressive in LMR, the fans don't realize that while it's great, it's not their best song at all. Maybe because it's one of the few songs on Out of Time that does NOT sound dated.
Also, I don't mind "Everybody Hurts", but it's clear why this one is overrated if you think about it. At least, I'm too lazy to type an explanation like that.

Man, I'd forgotten just how much R.E.M. kick ass. I'm glad I got to see them 4 years ago. (With Wilco, no less.)
01. E-bow the Letter 02. Strange Currencies 03. Crush With Eyeliner 04. The Great Beyond 05. Bang and Blame 06. Losing My Religion 07. What's the Frequency, Kenneth? 08. Everybody Hurts 09. Imitation of Life 10. Bittersweet Me 11. Drive (didn't see what the big deal was for years.) 12. Nightswimming 13. Man on the Moon (a little overrated) 14. Bad Day (so far) 15. Lotus 16. Stand 17. Star 69 18. Electrolite 19. Daysleeper (but I don't remember it very well.) 20. The One I Love
Most of their '80's singles that weren't popular wouldn't be in my Top 20 anyway and I don't remember "Low," "Pop Song 89," "At My Most Beautiful," or "All the Way to Reno." I never got to hear "All the Right Friends," for that matter, either.
Honorable mention for "Leave," which is actually my favorite R.E.M. song ever, though not a single.
I love how they have an album actually called Eponymous, rather than just having a self-titled record.
Also, up until just recently, I thought "Orange Crush" was "Fall on Me," because I thought he was saying "fall on me" instead of "Follow me, don't follow me" etc. I don't really like "Orange Crush" much, nor "It's the End of the World."
Hmm...I kinda want Out of Time, Up, and Reveal, now...

"Low" was a single? I had no idea. I thought it was just "Losing My Religion", "Texarkana", "Shiny Happy People", and "Radio Song".

Well, it had a video that I saw once. I also saw the tail end of a world premiere for the "Tongue" video. If I hadn't caught that, I never would've known it was the last Monster single.

What an amazing band, though I'm not really into much of their recent stuff. Here are my picks, though I could have named many others:
1. "Losing My Religon" (definitely a '90's classic) 2. "It's The End Of The World As We Know It" 3. "The One I Love" 4. "Photograph" 5. "Everybody Hurts" 6. "What's The Frequency, Kenneth?" 7. "Drive" 8. "Stand" 9. "Orange Crush" 10. "Man On The Moon"

Well, then I guess that BOTH albums were milked, because their record label still managed to promote singles after there had been flops. Especially Monster.
