One song with a completely underrated chart performance, and other with an (arguably) very overrated chart performance.
For me the easy answer is "In This Diary" which is one of the best songs of its genre to come out this year, or in a long time period. I really wish this song did better!
I love the lyrics so much that the chorus is one of my quotes in my AIM profile!

I underrated "In This Diary" on my chart (it only reached #13), but I like "The Boys of Summer" more.

I underrated "In This Diary" on my chart (it only reached #13), but I like "The Boys of Summer" more. it only got to #16 on mine, since I basically had no exposure to it aside from playing it myself on my comp.... but now I wish I made it a lot higher... as in Top 3 even.

Both are great songs. "In This Diary" spent two weeks at #1 on my chart, and "The Boys of Summer" hit #2. I go with "Diary" on this one because it's an original work while "Boys" is a cover. A GOOD cover (IMO,) but a cover nonetheless. Not to mention that the lyrics to "In This Diary" pretty much sum up my life right now.

"Boys Of Summer" is one of the worst covers I've heard in years. I'm happy it failed to go recurrent on CHR/Pop and fell quickly on Alternative and Hot AC. Don Henley's legacy is secure and ironically enough their biggest hit that they didn't write was one they never wanted released.
"In This Diary" wins no contest. It would automatically win anyway because it is an original, but also it is simply quality.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Don Henley's legacy is secure I don't see how it was ever in jeopardy.

I don't see how it was ever in jeopardy. Meaning his original classic being overshadowed by the cover, as it often happens. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I like both, but I prefer "The Boys of Summer"... sure, it's a cover, but it was very well-done. I kinda overlooked "In This Diary" while it was out, but I like it more now.

"In This Diary," because it's original and I enjoyed it more than "Boys of Summer."
