Alicia, Christina, and Evanescence. I like all three. They are all great for different things.

Are we voting on our favorite, or whom we think deserved it most in their respective year?
I choose Evanescence, though Lauryn Hill is right behind. It's kinda interesting that this is only the second time in over ten years that the Best New Artist award didn't go to a solo female...though of course a solo female does sing lead in this case..

Wow, every one of these New Artist winners are either female or led by a female. Girl power!!! :)
A boy rooting for the girls!

1. Alicia Keys (Only one vote for her so far? She's amazing. And she puts to rest that joke about the Grammy New Artist curse - the moment you win that particular award, you're doomed to obscurity for the rest of your life.)
2. Evanescence (Time will tell. Since Lauryn hasn't released anything noteworthy since "Miseducation", I'll rank Evanescence above her.)
3. Lauryn Hill
The last 5 names below are just downright horrible. Nasty, disgusting, putrid, pathetic... I could go on but you get the idea.
4. LeAnn Rimes (She has absolutely no credibility anymore. Not that she had much to begin with. Teen slut making pseudo-country music. To her credit, her first 2 albums sounded very country, at least.) 5. Paula Cole (Nowadays, people only remember her for her hairy armpits. And that Dawson's Creek song.) 6. Norah Jones (Dullsville personified.) 7. Shelby Lynne (Who'd be crazy enough to vote for someone who wasn't even "new" in the year she was nominated? What a joke.) 8. Christina Aguilera

1) Evanescence 2) Alicia Keys Not thrilled by the remainder, except I like Paula Cole's "Cowboy" song. Who's Shelby Lynne?

Oh, Shelby Lynne was one of the worst Best New Artist Winners but the nominees that year were really terrible.
Shelby Lynne Sisquo Jill Scott Papa Roach Brad Paisley
Brad Paisley should've won but I find him a little annoying.
All the nominees sucked.

Sisqo or Jill Scott should have won when Shelby Lynne did. At least the "Thong Song" was a massive hit, and he is now nowhere to be found, so it would have been fitting. Jill Scott is very talented and had some great songs that garnered her that nod.
Christina, followed by Alicia Keys, Lauryn Hill and Evanescence
Christina and Alicia will be around for a long time, I'd imagine. Say what you want about Christina's image, but the girl has an incredible talent, whether you like to admit it or not. She will be around for many years to come, and make numerous hits while she's at it. Nothing beats the voice, and she is truly blessed in that area.
Alicia has solidified herself with this sophomore album of hers. She will have a steady career.
Lauryn Hill is/was great, but she's totally gone whacky and disappeared, so I don't really know what to say.
Evanescence will have to prove themselves with another album, I think it's ludicrous to say they will be the best of the bunch based on 1 album. I like Amy Lee, I think she's unique and has a great voice, but they have to prove they aren't just a fluke.
The poll could be asking who is your current favourite, in that case it's fine.

Oh, from that group, I'd definitely pick Sisqo, since I loved "Thong Song" Off the top of my head I can think of better nominees than the rest of those from that year: Vertical Horizon, Pink, Sonique, 3 Doors Down, Samantha Mumba, Ruff Enz, and my choice: Dido. Hard to believe that Dido and Pink were overlooked in favor of the above group.
