No, CHR/Pop and CHR/Mainstream are not different formats.

Heck, just look at the "Format" sidebar on the radio-info.com boards...
Adult Contemporary Alternative CHR/Pop CHR/Rhythmic College Radio Country Dance Hot/Modern AC News/Talk Non-Commercial Oldies Religious Rock/Classic Rock Smooth Jazz Soft AC/Standards Spanish Sports Urban/Urban AC
Even they don't recognize a "CHR/Mainstream" format. Unless it's a brand-new name to describe stations that overplay their top five songs to death.
Mediabase's "CHR/Pop" is basically equivalent to BDS's "Top 40 Mainstream", format-wise.

Well I read that it was an exception for the new WCPP to call themselves "Cool Pop" that most CHR-Pop stations don't call themselves "pop" on the air. I guess the WYOK guy feels that way. On radio-info I also corrected the false information posted that "Baby I Love U!" went recurrent and the remix is charting. It has only charted as one song that never went recurrent.

It might not be worth it to argue with the guy, but you're obviously right.Β CHR/Pop, CHR/Mainstream, Mainstream Top 40 are all the same format.Β Even just saying "CHR" or "Top 40", its assumed that you mean "CHR/Pop".Β It doesn't matter how much of a station's playlist is actually considered "pop".Β If a station is playing mostly hits from the CHR/Pop chart, it's a "Pop" station.Β
