If you ask me, this guys is backed by everyone in the hip-hop industry to make another 50 Cent of this year, but the songs aren't nearly as catchy or good

50 Cent wasn't really that great. He had some nice beats, but he didn't even make them. I still think he's way overhyped. How about the Puff Daddy of the new millennium?

I like Kanye West much more, his beats are way more melodic and has more clever rhymes. He also not only makes beats for himself, but for other artists to get their careers an upstart.

Overrated and arrogant. But good.

He's amazing at the moment. I've yet to hear anything by him that I don't like.

My favorite album of the year that I've listened to so far in any genre.

Kanye West isn't about "catchiness"; he's one of the only popular rappers nowadays that actually says something of substance. 50 Cent on the other hand really just said the same stereotypical gangsta stuff we've heard before and his beats, hooks, and occassional funny punchlines are what saved him.
That said, I do think Kanye is a bit overhyped, but I still like him, and I don't see him as another 50 Cent at all.
geoguy's right though, Kanye is pretty cocky, but then again what rapper isn't?

He is a little overhyped, but some of his music sounds good.

Everyone seems to be giving him a lot of hype and everyone wants his name on their work...Alicia Keys, D12, J-Lo, Twista, Ludacris, tons of others. Some of the sampling sucks (cough SLOW JAMZ cough) but the guy has a ton of talent and puts out some good music. I think this is someone we'll still be hearing from a few years down the road.

At least he's a better producer than Lil' Jon.

The comparison with 50 Cent is apt. I don't what it is, how the music industry seems to randomly latch on every few months to some new unknown rap artist, and everything he touches is gold and everybody wants to be associated with him, no matter how devoid of talent he is, or how awful the "music" he puts out is.

I don't see what's so great about him either. Also, when you make comments like "A million is alright. But I'm expecting 5 million for my album, probably more" in Blender, you know this person's chances of staying power are already shrinking. Don't count your chickens before they hatch Kanye!

I'm not really a fan of his and I'm not into his music, but I do give him recognition for not being the typical "fuckin bitches and killin wankstas wit mah 22 inch rims" kind of rapper. It's nice to see that he can actually SAY something.
