I say Pop & R&B so keep that in mind-- otherwise everyone would pick guitar probably. And I'm not including drums, too obvious.

Flute "My Lovin" By EnVogue used the flute perfectly and geniously and I always thought the flute was not nearly used enough.
The bells chimes and whistles are all used my missy...they are ok.

I had to choose Brass, as exemplified recently by Mary J. Blige's "Ooh!"

Who picked strings? They're probably used the least but it does always sound great... like Wyclef's "Gone Til November" or Monica's "Street Symphony"

I picked strings because I think both strings and piano are really important in any kind of music. I probably prefer piano more in R&B but I just felt like going with strings.

Interesting question, unlike certain other topics in this forum.
I say piano, although I like strings too. Violins.

Piano nothing is better than an artist who can play the piano like Alicia Keys If I Ain't Got You

I'm surprised so many have said guitar considering we're not talking about rock here...
Regarding the poll, I'll choose piano.

The guitar in R&B and Pop music is the strongest asset IMO. See guitar is not just for distortion ... it can also be for music that sounds good.

I'm all alone on the brass?! C'mon now guys. Another example I thought of is Blackstreet's "Before I Let You Go".

Among my favorite instruments to hear on a song are: harp, saxophone, flute, trombone, piano, organ and violins.

I always fall for songs that have brass instruments. Not just in Pop and R and B, either.
