I like "Iris" way more, (and it definitely was a huge hit) but considering all factors such as multi-format airplay, sales, and international success, it's pretty clear that "I Will Always Love You" was the overall bigger hit.

"Iris" was the most played song of the 90's on radio, and holds the record for most weeks at #1 on Hot 100 Airplay.

"Iris" was the most played song of the 90's on radio, and holds the recordΒ for most weeks at #1 on Hot 100 Airplay. Now I thought that title belonged to Donna Lewis.

Now I thought that title belonged to Donna Lewis. She has the record for most weeks at #1 on R&R's CHR/Pop chart.

"Iris" was the most played song of the 90's on radio, and holds the recordΓ―ΒΏΒ½ for most weeks at #1 on Hot 100 Airplay. I actually never knew that...pretty interesting considering it only spent four weeks at the top on R&R's pop chart. How many weeks was it #1 on Hot 100 Airplay? I guess the longevity was due to all the rock and Hot AC airplay as well.

Yeah, I just checked allmusic.com and that's what it says. LOL...imagine a rock song spending so much time at the top of that chart now! 18 weeks is absolutely amazing...had "Iris" been released commercially, who knows what would have happened on the Hot 100 as well. Damn..I think I'm changing my vote!

She has the record for most weeks at #1 on R&R's CHR/Pop chart. Are you sure? I'm getting skeptical. I also thought Whitney held the record for most weeks at the top of the Hot 100.

Are you sure? I'm getting skeptical. I also thought Whitney held the record for most weeks at the top of the Hot 100. She did (14 weeks), until "I'll Make Love To You" tied her, and then "One Sweet Day" set the current record of 16 weeks.

"Iris".
They were both very successful, but I'm going to go with "Iris". 18 weeks is something quite impressive. :)

Neither would be my pick, but because I heard "Iris" lots for a long time, and it seems to appeal to a wider variety of music fans, and is much less often on anybody's hate list, that's what I choose.
