I think anyone who is not severely dellusional will agree that the ladies above have suffered devastating blows to their careers in sales and on radio. For most, we've probably seen the last of them for all intents and purposes. The question is, who is most likely to rise form the ashes and come back with a decent CD release next time around, in terms of critical acclaim and commercial success?
OMG, I forgot to include J.Lo and I can't modify the poll.

J Lo never really faded out though. . . her latest CD was a major success. I think Mariah may come back strong, Pink too.

Technically speaking, yes, but her Gigli bomb occured after her last CD release and her box office failures *may* turn into radio failures. Her last couple of singles were bombs, weren't they?

I voted for Madonna, but I agree that all these ladies are in a bit of trouble right now. But, I don't think any of them have gone so far that a comeback is totally out of the question.
I can see radio being interested in a 'together' Whitney. Just Whitney flopped, but she didn't really release any pop radio friendly singles, and her life was still a mess.
Madonna still has a great track record, American Life is really her only disappoinment (besides the odd flop single now and then).
Pink & Michelle Branch are coming off of disappointing CDs, but just a year ago, both had top 5 hits. I'd say that after a bit of a break, both can still have success.
I think Mariah may have released one flop too many, but I could be wrong. Janet is another iffy one. IMO, Michael's problems could stem over to her career, plus she's coming off of a pretty big bomb. I think she may need a bit of time away in order to make a comeback.
J-Lo was so overexposed these last few years, with 'Bennifer" and singles released one after another. I think this bit of time away from her has been a very good thing, and as long as she's not singing with/about Marc Anthony on her next album, she should be OK.

Pop is brutal. Hot AC & AC is the comeback trail for "over 30" pop singers. Pink could and should try to Rock her way back at Pop, Rock, and Alt. Michele Branch has a chance left but she better make a great song or shes done. Madonna is done. Janets used up her 9 lives and Whitneys ruined her voice - maybe she can salvage something. But who wants to write for her?
Pink could make it back if she committed herself to it completely. Branch needs a great song - her voice and name aren't enough.

Technically speaking, yes, but her Gigli bomb occured after her last CD release and her box office failures *may* turn into radio failures. Her last couple of singles were bombs, weren't they? "baby i love u" was her last single and it flopped. but she had a solid hit with "i'm glad" and "all i had" went to #1" and "jenny from the block" almost hit #1. I dont think movies have anything to do with her music career and from the way radio responded to the leaked track a few months ago, I am POSITIVE radio wil embrace her once again as usual. OUt of thos eselected, i think Whitney, Janet, Mariah, and Madonna will all make comebacks. Janet and adonna especially. Janets can always re-invent herself and come out with something fresh and new and so can Madonna. They have it the easiest but I give the edge to janet because Janet has multi format appeal. Whitneys ruined her voice - maybe she can salvage something. But who wants to write for her? Apparantely Rodney Jerkins and Cathy Dennis want to write for her because they are already doing it for her upcoming album.

Michelle Branch partly because she's not nearly in as bad a position as the others, and partly because she has an ear for good pop hooks. The label just needs to pick the right singles. (NOT Until I Get Over You )

I voted for Madonna because she is the the Queen of Reinvention and comebacks... although next time will be much more challenging for her. I think Madonna and Janet are both in the same exact boat. Both have had incredibly long runs of success, and not just mild success, but being one of the hottest artists for almost 20 years. Both have had great track records up til their latest albums. Usually, I woudn't have to think twice about saying they'll both come back just as strong the next time around. But radio has changed in that A) for the most part, it's very rare to see middle-aged women (or men) having strings of Top 10 hits when it used to be a non-issue and B) radio is lately less-forgiving in general of artists coming back off flops... it's almost like there's an unwritten one-strick-you're-out rule. If anyone can overcome these 2 factors, it'd be Madonna or Janet. But unfortunately I have my doubts.
Pink and Michelle Branch, I think it all depends on their material and what else is out at the time of their comebacks. I think both of them will have at least another minor hit or two, but I don't think Pink will ever be as popular as she was in 2002 and Michelle Branch will never have as much success as she did with her debut.
Mariah, well, unfortunately radio has a stigma against her that won't go away anytime soon. That plus the fact that her material as of lately has not been strong at all. Hopefully LA Reid will live up to his promise to promote Mariah to the fullest this time around, but even if he payola's her to death, I don't see her having an actual comeback due to the afforementiond stigma.
Whitney will never see Pop radio or Urban Top 10 again. Plus she had difficulty getting played even when the other Big 3 Pop Queens were.
I think J. Lo will go Top 10 with her next lead single, but I think it is the beginning of the end for her. A lot of what was popular the first 3 years of this decade is out now, and now that people have been able to go for over a year without J. Lo oversaturation, they realize her success was just hype anyway.

I'd have to say Pink has the best chance. She's the most versatile of all of them (except for maybe Madonna) and I think that with an extensive break, radio and music buyers can warm up to her again.
Madonna could as well, but I'm not placing any bets. I'll just leave it up to her to see what she does next. She always surprises me.

I think Whitney can sing the best out of the choices above (my opinion), and singing is a talent (fact).
Saying she has the most talent could just mean she's the best singer.

A lot of what was popular the first 3 years of this decade is out now, and now that people have been able to go for over a year without J. Lo oversaturation, they realize her success was just hype anyway. I have to disagree with that in so many ways. Eventhough what was popular when J.Lo first came out may not be popular now but J-lo has always been able to do whatever is popular at the moment and move on to the next thing. She is a hit maker. She isnt exactly out to change the world with her music or make classic masterpieces. She is out to make a catchy hit and sell her albums. Jennifer is like the female version of Nelly. She is gonna make whatever is popular, sell a few million and move on to the next thing. She makes catchy music and doesnt try to do anything different. As long as she sticks to what she has been doing, she will be fine. And with her working with Darkchild again, who has once again become as "in style" as he ws in 99, she will favor well. I wouldnt be surprise if she got Lil John to do a pop track for her or somehting,. because thats just how J.Lo does. She takes whatever is popular and does her own thing with it. And with the frenzy she had radio in over the summer when "on the floor" leaked, its obvious radio is ready for her and still very receptive to her music. Sony had to make them stop playing it because they werent ready to release anything from her and the song was nothing but a left over, mediocure track from her 1st album. So obviously that style must still have some popularity left in it. I think J.lo has at least 1 more album of hits before she starts suffering what Mariah, Janet, Madonna, and Whitney are going through. I dont think any of her songs really did well because of hype, especially not the singles off the last album. Her 1st album maybe because she was the new hot star, but after that she was pretty much on her own. She had to make catchy music because the odds have never been in Jennifers favor to be a successful recording artist. Her relationships/marriages did nothing but hurt her and didnt really bring any positive hype in her direction. i hate when people try to find excuses for some1's success. People just liked her songs. "i'm real" was one of the hottest songs and collabos in 2001, and "all i have" was one of the hottest in 2002 or 2003 whenever it came out. She just knows how to make a hit and i dont think Her label would allow her to make anything other than that. Thats what they have signed her for.

I think Whitney can sing the best out of the choices above (my opinion), and singing is a talent (fact). Saying she has the most talent could just mean she's the best singer. 10 years ago Whitney could sing better. But in 2004, even with her improvement she is no where near the level she used to be, her range is shot, and Mariah could whistle and blow Whitney away now. Singing is a great talent but Mariah has the better voice, production skills, and song writing talent in comparison to Whitney. Maodnna and Janet have decent voices, they are song writers and performers which are all talents just like singing. They are multi talented. Even Pink. Therefore Whitney = less talented than all.

I don't think vocals are a factor anymore in 2004. So I don't even think it's necessary to discuss it when determining who would have the best comeback.

I voted for Pink, with Michelle Branch a relatively close second. Both are young and talented. I really liked Pink when she first burst on the scene. The singles from this last album really disappointed me though. I haven't heard much about Michelle Branch's personal life other than her recent marriage. That's good for her longevity, IMO. Usually I get sick of the image faster than I get sick of their music. And I was so impressed with her on Pepsi Smash (I think) this last year. Just her and her guitar and some back up guys. She didn't have to be a slut to sell her talent. I just think Mariah, Madonna, and Whitney are too old to be popular with the hip crowd. Maybe Mariah or Whitney could come back on AC or something, but I don't see it at all. And when you think of it all three have become pretty much jokes due to their personal lives. Their drug addiction, psycosis and or unusual religion is more what people talk about than their music or talent. Not a good sign. Maybe the three should band together like the Three Tenors and do Vegas.

Hmm...I'm going to have to go with Michelle. I just think she needs to step away from the slut list and then she'll be fine. She's actually my second favorite artist after Christina Aguilera.
Michelle's still growing as an artist. It'll be interesting to see how the new band she's starting, The Wreckers, with her best friend, Jessica Harp, who is extremely talented, will turn out. Pop/Rock is doing really well on the charts right now, so it'd be in their best interest to follow on that and throw something out soon. ;)
