Are these polls who we think will win or who we want to win?

looks like the only woman in the group will win this one, and deservingly so.
ray charles was a genius, but the fact that he has no hit single should hurt his chances, IMO. the best albums both have critical acclaim and commercial and radio success.

Yeah, this time it has to be Green Day. From a committee that always shuns popularity in favor of critical acclaim, if American Idiot doesn't win, it would be the most definitive evidence yet that they have no criteria whatsoever.

I strongly feel Green Day will win this Grammy.
Alicia Keys will be Green Day's closest competitor, and Ray Charles may pull in a few sentimental votes, but I believe because Alicia Keyes has already come off a huge debut (Songs in a Minor) that won her multiple Grammys, when you look at it from that perspective, she doesn't exactly stand out as much as Green Day's suprise acclaimed comeback effort.
With the exception of Kanye West's "The College Dropout", "American Idiot" is more critically-acclaimed than all other nominations here, and it is also selling briskly. It is maintaining itself in the Top 50 of the Billboard 200 and is en route to double platinum status, which "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" airplay on CHR/Pop will accomplish.
Usher may win the popularity contest here as far as overall sales and commerical success are concerned, but I really don't see him winning. Kanye West is a critics darling, but other than that, he doesn't exactly round up all the corners in my mind.
Green Day.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Oh, this is really a sad group of nominations. Alicia Keys by default. This year's albums by the following artists are far more deserving than any of these:
Brandy Muse Kevin Lyttle Ozomatli Snow Patrol Rasmus Franz Ferdinand Keane
