Now that the two sole "obvious" singles from the record have been released and it is about time to plan out the third release with "Ocean Breathes Salty" still going after an extended, steady chart run, one of the less obvious candidates must be chosen.
What would make the best third single? (I omitted "Bukowski", "The Devil's Work Day", "Satin In A Coffin" and "Blame It On The Tetons" as I don't see any of those tracks being released.)
I actually have serious doubts about "Dance Hall", though it is a more upbeat track that might at least by sound appear infectious, and "Dig Your Grave" as well, but it's open to interpretation.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

***********My Pick************
I believe "One Chance" should be the third single.
It is a lighter offering from the band, which I find perhaps the most listenable track from the record. The hook resonates well enough in the song, with great poetic imagery, "I've seen many ships sailing...". It's a track I also see charting well on Triple A.
Of course, there are a couple other directions the band could take that might work.
"Bury Me With It" and "Black Cadillacs" are both more Alternative-sounding tracks, more gritty, more dark, more electric-toned, with hooks of their own that might appeal to some stations.
And "The World At Large" has that Coldplay sort of atmosphere to it that could also appeal.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I chose Bury Me With It. It has more of a structure to it and I think it sounds like an alternative hit.
I think the last singles off of Good News For People Who Love Bad News should go:
Bury Me With It The View Black Cadillacs or One Chance

"Bury Me With It" is addictive. I can imagine this doing well, and besides, their core format is Alt.

"The World At Large" because it's the one KNDD has been playing and I like it. I'd rather not take a chance with another song. I might have heard "Bury Me With It" though.

"Bury Me With It," although I wouldn't complain about the release of any song except for "Dance Hall."

Oddly enough the first time I listened to Good News..., Bury Me With It seemed to stand out more as a single to me than Float On or Ocean Breathes Salty.

To me, "The View" seems like the obvious third single choice. Although I could see "Bury Me With It" or "One Chance" being released.

how is 'dig your grave' on this? itz like 6 seconds long! i personally like 'bukowski' or 'world at large' as next single. i wouldnt mind if 'satin in a coffin' or 'black caddilacs' went for it. 'one chance' sounds good, but the "im just a box in a cage'' lines really pee me off. like wise with 'dancehall' and 'bury me with it' - too repetitive.

I was gotta say that I heard Modest Mouse's 'Good News' record, and if I would've had heard it last year it would have been the best I heard in 04. Funny enough, I was hearing the CD, while I got in a car accident (yes, a couple of hours ago, and no it wasn't that bad), and after all that nasty mess, this awesome CD relaxed me a bit.
Anywho, nuff but me. I heard that 'World at Large' will be the 3rd single, now don't get me wrong, the song is awesome, but it sounds way too much like 'Float On', the best choice would be the very agressive 'Bury Me With It', or the ultra-cool 'The View'. I chose 'The View' for a 3rd, and 'Bury' for a 4th.
Hell, even if 'World's the 3rd single, let's hope some Grammy wins will help improve sales so they can release 5 singles.
1. Float On 2. Ocean Breathes Salty 3. World At Large 4. The View 5. Bury Me With It
anyway, I chose 'View'.

I like the song, but I just see it as more of an album track. "The View" really seems like the best choice to me - it's a little edgier than "Float On" and "OBS" but I think it still has the elements that made those songs appealing to the average listener. Anyway, FMQB now says the single is "TBD" so apparently Epic has rethunk their decision.
