My personal favorite is Roberta Flack... her early albums were phenomenal... including her signature tracks "First Time Every I Saw Your Face" and "Killing Me Softly".

Those are all females. Out of those, Aretha.

I picked Patti. I like most of them, but don't know enough other than the hits to make a good vote. One thing, I did sing with Roberta Flack live a few years ago. It was for a christmas special she does. That year it was with Peabo Bryson, Bill Medley of the Righteous Brothers, and Marilyn McCoo of 5th Dimension. Roberta was very good, but Peabo was a shining star and Marilyn McCoo really STOLE the show when she did "O Holy Night". It really was incredible.

I love them all, but you gotta go with Aretha.
My least favorite is probably Dionne.

Where's Luther Vandross on that list?
From that all female list, I would pick Chaka and Patti.

Aretha Franklin. As for all of them being females, that's what it says in the poll question.

If Gladys Knight was on this list, she'd surely be my pick!
But out of the people listed, I chose Diana Ross, because she's just all-around great. Love lots of her solo stuff and to top it all off, she's fun! Aretha would've been my second choice, if not for Diana.

Yep, when I saw the thread I searched immediately for Gladys Knight.
In her absence I'm picking a lesser talent IMO, but of the bunch, I give it to Aretha. Patti is the best vocalists, but Aretha has had the songs.

If her work with the Supremes were to be included, it would be Diana Ross hands down, otherwise Dionne Warwick might sneak by. Aretha Franklin is strong, too, and so is Chaka Khan. If her work with the Pips counts, Gladys Knight should be on the list. Nina Simone should not.

Aretha Franklin & Diana Ross are amazing but I went for Diana in the end cause she has the better songs.
Tina Turner is fantastic too though but I never think of her when it comes to R&B music.
