I'm gonna say a similar role to Phil Collins, a lot of huge hits, came back with band and had more hits, returned with a few mid-major hits and then songwrites and performs for the AC audience.

I'm really not sure.
I'm not really convinced he's going to go in the direction of Phil Collins. Rob Thomas writes strong ballads, but I think he wants to remain true to an edgier persona.
Rob Thomas should definitely be more successful than Dave Matthews, Darius Rucker and Steve Perry.
I'd say Don Henley is probably the closest artist I'd match Rob Thomas with. He got a decent number of hits on his own, and I think Rob Thomas could stand tall by himself beyond just one single.
Mick Jagger may be another one to compare to.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Hopefully, his career will last as long as Captain Hollywood Project.
