Though Best Song Oscars certainly don't push artists commerically or to heights like the Grammys do, the Best Original Song award nevertheless remains an achievement to its conductors and writers.
Eminem (who didn't perform at last year's Academy Awards) made one of the more memorable moments of this category when he became the first rapper ever to win a Grammy with the mega-hit "Lose Yourself".
This year we won't be expecting any buzz of that magnitude, yet every little bit helps.
What will win here?
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I think this will be a toss-up between Counting Crows and Andrew Lloyd Webber/Charles Hart's compositions.
"Accidentally in Love" benefits from its wide popularity across the airwaves and among children who keep singing along this tune everywhere (it's on Kidz Bop 7!) Counting Crows can take this award based on its multi-demographic impression.
However, "Learn To Be Lonely" from "The Phantom of the Opera", composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics written by Charles Hart, can't be ruled out here. It's a beautifully composed composition and is more professional when sizing it up to "Accidentally in Love".
The main flaw here with the Counting Crows is that their fans unanimously agree this is one of Duritz's worser songs he's written, and many of his previous releases, like "Round Here" and "A Long December", would have made much more worthy winners if written for a motion picture.
The main flaw with Webber and Hart is that "The Phantom of the Opera" has struggled in the box office. It's domestic intake hasn't yet met its production budget. On top of that, the film received generally bad reviews (35% at Rotten Tomatoes) and that will dent the overall integrity of their chances winning coming upon Hollywood's biggest night.
I don't see how any of the other nominees can win here. I'd say "Believe" has the lowest odds running against it among the remaining three nominations, with "The Motorcycle Dairies" composition with the greatest odds of all five nominations.
I'll give this to Counting Crows.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Add me to the list of those shocked when Eminem won. But I was happy, because it was well-deserved. Lose Yourself is a great song. How did Barbara look, Hector? lol.

It wasn't so much shock as it was a bit of disgust. She sorta bit her lower lip and gave a bit of a sigh and said "interesting...Eminem!" Too bad he didn't even bother to attend...imagine him performing at the Oscars :o In later interviews, he himself talked about how even he was surprised he had won and that he didn't go cause it wasn't his thing

I think "Accidentally In Love" has the least shot at winning. I think it's between "Believe" and "Learn To Be Lonely".

There's so much 'snoot' in the air, you can't tell many of them apart. They barely clap, and they're barely alive! If he performed, the reaction would be so funny. lol. LOL @ "interesting... Eminem." You know what's funny about that? Christina Aguilera said those same exact words when she presented Eminem with the 'Best Male Video' award at the VMAs a couple of years ago.

Should win: Accidentally In Love Probably will win: Learn To Be Lonely. Definately will not win: Al Otro Lado Del Río, Look To Your Path
And I wasn't the least bit surprised that Eminem won.

I haven't heard a single one of these, but I'll go with "Learn to be Lonely." Just because I like being wrong.
