Rap music has gone down the tubes lately because it's all commercial beat-driven bullshit by people who can't even rap. In your opinion, what's the bigger thorn in the side of Rap today?
This is hard for me because I can't stand all these "Nolia Clap"/"Some Cut" songs, but 50 Cent is just as bad PLUS he's on the radio 3 times an hour per station. His arrogance mized with his goofy clown face smile doesn't help either. 50 Cent is even worse!

Both, and also those reggaeton songs that aren't even in English. This is America. Learn to speak our damn language.

Not specifically 50, but what he represents.

Hmm...guess i'll go with 50 but I dont think he is hurting hip hop, he is actually boosting hip hops mainstream appeal by being so successful.

I would have to go with the Southern rappers. 50 may be annoying, but I do think his first album was solid. The Southern rappers on the other hand, with the exception of a select few like Ludacris, Outkast, and Scarface. Oh and Lil Jon too I suppose, but he sticks out like a sore thumb with his shrill screams.
On the other hand, I have to admit I like reggaeton. And why should they speak English? It's their native language, their music is based in Puerto Rico, and reggaeton was popular there for years before it caught on stateside. If anything, they would be selling out if they started speaking English, and one could argue that they're doing so by letting Lil Jon and NORE on their records.

i think whats killing rap is unoriginality. nothing new is being said, so whats the point of playing new music? some of the better rap songs arent getting airtime because they arent big names or because is not what rap is about these days. candy shop is the most BS songs ive heard all year, while fantastic raps like sugar daddy, sunshine to the rain, for the nasty and feel it in the air are not getting the exposure they deserve for said reasons.

The southern rap. It has simply got to go. 50 Cent is bad, but he seems incredible compared to most southern rappers. ![:-/](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/undecided.png)

Daddy Yankee has sold like 400k and in his cd the only song in english is Like You and half of the lyrics are in spanish. A ella le gusta la gasolinaaaa ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png)

Both, and also those reggaeton songs that aren't even in English. This is America. Learn to speak our damn language. I find that to be incredibly closed minded. I welcome Hispanic influence. It represents a major, growing market in the country. Pitbull sucks, but I haven't given Daddy Yankee a fair chance yet. I'm interested in finding some authentic Hispanic hip hop and mariachi music, but I don't know how to determine quality at this point. And N.O.R.E. is half authentic (don't know the specific nationality), so letting him on isn't really selling out. Heck, "Oye Mi Canto" was his single. Oh God, "Some Cut" is f**king awful. Unoriginality, most crunk music, and cheaply made southern-bounce rap are just mind rot. There's actually a s**tload of current hip hop songs I really like. I'll sort everything out on the next Report Card.

The rappers themselves, who are so bad and keep getting worse, and the radio stations that keep overplaying them to the virtual exclusion of decent R&B songs. Let's hope they succeed in killing off rap for good.

Its just plain out MOST rappers. I live in southern Georgia and so much people wanna make an album. Most people albums are so lame and cliche. One of my best friends made a song and I told him it was bad and cliche. All I hear now is about money, b!tches and hoes, drugs, fighting, and people hatin on others.
So even though 50 is bad, he stills has a little creavity to think of stuff different than many, MANY other rappers.
But I would go with southern rappers

I guess I'd go with the southern rappers, although I am fine with some of them.
I really think that the downfall is the lack of substance in like 75% of the current rap songs. I mean, yes you need a good beat, but you also don't wanna make people sick of your songs real easily by making real dumb lyrics.

Those damn southern rappers... 50 is terrible, but recently, he's done a good job with the game. Sure, 50's own CD is terrible, but "Hate It Or Love It" is the best non-College Dropout rap song in the decade. Those random southern rappers, however, haven't done s**t for rapping. They flat-out suck.

but "Hate It Or Love It" is the best non- College Dropout rap song in the decade. Nah, Twista's "Overnight Celebrity," Fabolous' "Breathe," Snoop's "Drop It Like It's Hot," Ludacris' "Spalsh Waterfalls (Remix)," Busta's "I Know What You Want," P. Diddy's "I Need A Girl)" and probably at least 50 more are better. I will admit that "Hate or Love It" is by far the most tolerable song 50 Cent is on to date. But let's be real, the chorus is all about how he's on top and Game is Rap's MVP (on his second single no less). Who the hell wants to hear that subject matter? Who can relate to 2 people talking about how specifically better they are than anyone else? The lyrical content is whack.

![](http://yoursmiles.org/ssmile/fun/s0270.gif) That's the best rap song I've heard in years. Rap music is just dumb these days. It's all the same. 90% of rap songs today have lyrics that are interchangeable with any other rap song. Anybody looking for smart rap -- K-os has an incredible album out now. He's canadian too. Beats the crap of all American rappers.

The southern rappers has to go. They are destroying the rap game with there oversexed materialistic songs. They make Scarface look so bad because he's from the south and he was holdin them down in a good way.

I really just dont like southern rappers. They piss me off. They have no creavity whatsoever. Most of them just rap to make money. No kinda heart in it or nothing.

Who can relate to 2 people talking about how specifically better they are than anyone else? The lyrical content is whack. I guess it's a matter of opinion... "Breathe" was incredible, and if HIOLI suffers a fast burnout with, me, Breathe will reclaim that spot. But the chorus is what really makes me like HIOLI like it. It's really catchy, the beat is soft, and it's good. I guess it's kind of a whack song, much like "Drop It Like It's Hot." What was the lyrical content in that? It was really good, but it went no where. I guess what I really love about HIOLI is the soft beat combined with the whack lyrics. I like hearing them brag, it makes me laugh. The song just kind of makes me feel good. (Oh, and, I don't know why, but I hate "I Need A Girl", both pt. 1 & 2.)
